Philel Vrum (August 17th, 1896 - Unknown) is best known for his work in the neurosciences. Born in the Urals of western Russia, Vrum was thought to be born with the brain disease Tuberous sclerosis. However, the white patches of skin, reportedly found on his wrists and inner thighs, were the beginnings of vitiligo a harmless pigmentation disorder. Beginning his life with a personal interest in the body and its malfunctions, he began studying his body in high school. Challenged by his high school courses, he dropped out of school and applied for internships at different neuroscience labs in Moscow. With nothing to prove his intelligence or knowledge the labs did not except him as an apprentice and he began his famous tour of Northern Europe in order to survey the mountain communities, and determine if the higher elevations affected the brain. He found that most mountain-folk were right brain oriented (therefore left-handed) and musical. Being right-handed himself and having never picked up an instrument in his studious childhood, he ardently noted the different characteristics between rural and urban, left-handed and right-handed, artistic and scientific thinkers. As he lived among the mountains he recorded his findings into three journals: Music and the Mind, Landscape Science, and Musical Mountains. These writings were a major influence on the work of Billy Berman.
Unfortunately these books are the limits of his scientific offerings as shortly after publishing the three, he vanished. Many believe he simply gave up his communications with his family and colleagues to take up a simple mountain life of music and creation. The cause of his death, as well as the age he died at, is unknown.
