The Philippine Military Academy began with the establishment of the Academia Militar on October 25, 1898 at Malolos, Bulacan by virtue of a decree issued by the first president of the young Philippine republic, General Emilio Aguinaldo. On 01 September 1908, the school was relocated to Baguio City.On 08 September 1926, the Philippine Legislature passed Act No. 3496 which renamed the school the ‘Philippine Constabulary Academy’ and lengthened its course from nine months to three years with provisions to strengthen the faculty and revise its curriculum.
On 21 December 1936, Commonwealth Act No. 1 (also known as the National Defense Act) was passed. The Law formally created the Philippine Military Academy and authorized it to confer a Bachelor of Science degree on its graduates after they successfully complete the four-year course. Commonwealth Act Number One, also known as the National Defense Act, which formally established the Philippine Military Academy in 1935, also empowered the Academy to confer upon its graduates a Bachelor of Science degree. The academic curriculum of the Academy, along with its system of military training, was patterned after those of the United States Military Academy.

[edit] Mission
PMA adheres to the philosophy that education must develop the whole person. Under this concept, education is not limited to the development of the intellect only. It also includes physical education, the acquisition of knowledge, and the development of skills, habits, and attitudes and values, which are required by a chosen profession. This "total-person" concept is aptly captured in the PMA mission statement:
"To instruct, train and develop the cadets so that each graduate shall possess the character, the broad and basic military skills, and the education essential to the successful pursuit of a progressive military career as a values-centered leader in selfless service to the AFP and the nation."
[edit] Vision
"To be an institution of excellence and professionalism for future military leaders dedicated to a selfless service to the nation."
[edit] Cadet Life
The life of PMA cadets revolves around strict adherence to the honor code. It is a must for all cadets not only to know the code but to practice and practice and make it a way of life. The Cadet Honor Code is what distinguishes a PMA cadet from students of other institutions.
THE HONOR CODE
"WE, THE CADETS DO NOT LIE, CHEAT, STEAL NOR TOLERATE THOSE WHO DO."
1. A cadet does not lie. In his dealing with others, a cadet tells the truth, regardless of the consequences. He does not quibble. He does not make evasive statements.
2. A cadet does not cheat. A cadet does not defraud others nor does he take undue advantage of them.
3. A cadet does not steal. A cadet does not take any personal property of another without the latter’s consent. He does not keep for himself anything that he finds which does not belong to him.
4. A cadet does not tolerate any violation of the Code. A cadet is bound to report any breach of the Code that comes to his attention. He does not countenance by inaction honor violations; if he does, he becomes party to such a violation and he himself is as guilty as the violator.
