When was he born, when did he die?

What does the sentence "Mr. Philip Callan was devoted to Butt" mean? Regards, High on a tree 00:58, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I have put some more information into the article (with sources in the footnotes). I presume the reference to Butt was to the eventual leader of the Home Rule League (which was the precursor of the Irish Parliamentary Party), Isaac Butt. As the issue arises from a quotation, I have not done anything about it in the article. --Gary J (talk) 16:49, 21 November 2007 (UTC)
