Talk:Philemon (New Testament person)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'll come back to this later - but this is a very problematic article. 1) Philemon of the letter to Philemon may not have been from Colossae. There is nothing in the letter to say he was. It is only from the letter to the Colossians that we gleem that, and the authenticity of that letter is debatable. There is all sorts of speculation, and anachronism here posing as facts. Fact is nothing is known of Philemon other than the sketch details of the letter, all of which are open to various interpretations. Roman Catholic tradition has a lot of hagiography, and it is fair for the article to comment on that, but it is generally accepted as being a very dubious historical source. There are also weasle words here 'It is not plain whether he was ordained or not.' Better saying, there is 'the leter gives us absolutely no reason to believe he was ordained' --Doc ask? 09:06, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
