Talk:Phil Thurston

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I believe that this page should not be deleted. Phil Thurston is a very influential composer within the advertising music industry and has been creating commercials for the past 11 years, directly affecting the advertising marketplace. Phil has many tracks released commercially through various record labels like other artists like Groove Armada or Zero 7. Phil's music has also been used on many TV shows across the world and is an active member of the Performing Right Society. For these reasons I believe that this artist should remain on the Wikipedia Encyclopedia.

  • it's not your belief that it should stay that's the determiner, nor unfortunately membership of the PRS or having released tracks commercially through record labels. but "multiple non-trivial sources" to confirm his notability. Best, tomasz. 11:04, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

?

  • the first two are commerce sites selling compilations with a track apiece by him on, so not those two. the third is a last.fm page, which have no restrictions of exclusivity at all (anyone can get one), so not that one either. i'm afraid i can't get the last one to work on the computer i am on, but i will try and look at it later. tomasz. 11:43, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Or

Or companies such as www.candle.org.uk who list him as a composer and studio manager?

[edit] Or Even...

Or even PCAM (producers and composors of applied music board) which is supported by PRS which lists him as a composer of applied music in their Composers list?

[edit] Reference + Tags

The reference I've included is the product of this search. However, the reference appears to be only a trivial mention, accordingly, I've tagged the article {{moresources}}. I've tagged the article {{autobiography}} for obvious reasons. Lastly, if someone could provide a link of some sort to verify the awards, that would be appreciated. Addhoc 23:37, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

I've tagged it for a re-write. Like many autobiographical articles on Wikipedia, it has errors in style, run-ons sentences, and too many clauses (e.g., "which twice in a sentence). Somebody other than the author needs to edit this. Bearian 20:24, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Award Confirmation

Confirmation of the Bronze British Television Award that Phil Thurston's arrangement of 'The Snowman' won for Irn Bru can be found on www.btaa.co.uk under the bronze BTAA winners of 2007.

Confirmation of the Silver and Gold Roses Award that Phil Thurston's arrangement of 'The Snowman' won for Irn Bru can be found at http://www.thedrum.co.uk/events/awards.php?event_id=19

Most advertising agency and advertising awards don't list the music company or the composer for some strange reason.

Phil Thurston currently works for www.candle.org.uk where you can also find out about his work. http://www.candle.org.uk/people.html

There is also an article about the Mira Showers commercials that Phil Thurston arranged at Candle with co composer Charlie Spencer. http://commercial-archive.com/node/133254

There is also mention of a song that Phil Thurston wrote and sung which appeared on the Johnny Walker show on BBC Radio Two in an interview with Sarah Settelen. http://www.elliesettelen.net/radio.htm
