Phipps Plaza, owned by Simon Property Group, is an 821,000 square foot (76,000 m²) mall in Buckhead, Atlanta and Lenox Square's sister-mall.
In 1969, Phipps Plaza opened as the first multi-level mall in Atlanta and was aimed to become the South's leading upscale and premiere luxury shopping destination. Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord & Taylor were added as anchors to this upscale plaza. It was not until 1992 with a $140 million renovation and expansion that Phipps gained its third anchor, Parisian, a midscale department store prevalent in the south. In 2004, the Lord & Taylor store closed its doors after nearly 35 years when the company exited the Georgia market. The store was completely renovated to make way for Atlanta's third Nordstrom, which opened in March 2005. On August 2, 2006, it was announced that Belk was acquiring the Parisian chain of department stores, with the store being converted to the Belk name in the fall of 2007. Phipps Plaza is still home to Atlanta's only Saks Fifth Avenue store. The Belk store at Phipps Plaza has now been designated by Belk as one of four of their "flagship" stores.
Phipps has more than 100 specialty shops, five full-service restaurants, a food court, and a 14-screen AMC movie theater.
