From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Philips High School is a State School in Whitefield, Bury and is on the site of Stand Grammar School for Girls. The current Headmaster is Mr. C. J. Trees whom is supported by his Deputy Mr. A. D. Black. Philips High School used to be Stand Grammar for Girls but in the 80s was made a mixed gender school. There was also the Stand Grammar for Boys Building on Church Lane which was used as part of Bury College for a short while until it was demolished to make way for houses. Philips high school has changed a lot since it was Stand Grammar for girls. It now has its own sports hall which is also open to public after school hours. It also has several all weather pitches and has recently had some tennis courts built. There have been several refurbishments inside the actual building too like New ICT Rooms and new classroom furniture. The hall which still has on display the Head girl boards from Stand Grammar for Girls contains a Stage and a Balcony which is used during assemblies. The school also uses past Head Teachers' and Govenors' names for their House Point System (Clive, Inesson, Keech, Lobjoit)(Philips, Ragdale, Sidall). They are often referred to as C, I, K, L and P, R, S.

Pupils In genera;, pupils at the school are well-mannered and helpful, and make a positive contribution to the local communty. Aside from a few negligable stabbings, this is a perfect school ethos
