The 1st ever Philippine Supermodel Search started airing last February 28, 2008. Hosted by Philippine model Joey Mead, she has chosen a total of 17 candidates to be in the running for the next Philippine Supermodel. The winner will receive 500,000 PHP contract with Maldita, a cover of Vogue Nippon and will be represented by NEXT model management Tokyo.

[edit] The Girl Who Is Special
Episode 1
The second cycle of PNTM started with Joey Mead calling 38 girls from all over the country. One girl who stand out was the special girl, Eloisa, which has a mild case of down syndrome. Another girl who stand out was Jeri Turingan, who came from the tribes of Mangyan. After individual panel interview, the girls were narrowed down to 25, where all posed in the rainy weather. Joey chose 17 girls to move to the house. The house was located in a squatters' area. Immediately, some bragging and mean events happened between the girls, were Kristia and Roxanne bullied Jeri for her unappealing appearance. For the challenge, the girls faced the press, Eloisa had trouble speaking, Annibeth bored the lot and Kristia emerged as the winner as she spoke fluently and had the confidence to be the top model.[neutrality disputed] She won a 10,000PHP shopping spree and chose Roxanne and Katrina to share her prize. But Katrina, disliking Roxanne for her unattractive face, refused to accept the part of the prize.
For the first photo shoot, the girls have to sport high fashion gowns in the middle of Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue. Jeri had trouble with her fluffy gown, Abigail with extending her body, and Danielle Joie with her body position. Meanwhile, Racquel and Eloisa rocked the photo shoot. At the panel, Joey noticed Annibeth's shy attitude and Blanca's self presentation. Annibeth and Jeri landed in the bottom 2, and Joey told Jeri that she needs to have that great posture to be the next top model. Annibeth was sent home due to her low confidence and lack of potential.

[edit] The Girl Who Cried Like A Baby
Episode 2
The girls were quite nervous for the early departure of the tall Annibeth, and they stayed in the house discussing possible shocking eliminations and photo shoots. The challenge involved learning the proper way of applying make-up. Again, Jeri had the biggest trouble, while Blanca helped Eloisa on her make-up. Eloisa won the challenge and ended up picking Abigail and Racquel forgetting Blanca who helped her. This made Blanca furious with Eloisa, and as Blanca confronted her, Danielle Joie and Keziah went into Eloisa's defense. Blanca ended up insulting Keziah, who broke down and cried like a brat. Eloisa explained to Blanca that she has short term memory and failed to remember her in choosing her reward mates.
The week's photoshoot involved jumping on a trampoline, representing different kind of animals. Madeleine was mad about being a Tarsier and Jeri wondered why was she a Carabao. But the real deal was how to get a good photo while jumping on a trampoline with elaborate costumes. Kristia and Racquel rocked the photo shoot for embodying their representations, and Jennylene struggled to get a good photo.

At panel, the judges pointed out Keziah's sensitivity on comments, Abigail's lack of commitment, Danielle Joie's bubly personality and Jeri's perfect delivery. The judges were impressed with Kristia's shot. Keziah and Jennylene landed in the bottom 2, Joey tells Jennylene that she needs to extend her body more and relax her face. Keziah was sent home due to her comment sensitive persona, though she was the second tallest, she failed to embody her character.

[edit] The Girl Who Shaved Her Head
Episode 3
Makeover episode and the girls went to David's Salon, where ER and Joey told them their respective makeovers. Drastic changes were made to Jeri, Roxanne, Ruby and Eloisa who all had very long hair, and now having short hair. Roxanne broke down when she learned that she was going bald, but held her head high when she noticed how it magnified her features. The week's challenge was runway walk. Katrina stumbled and fumbled with her two left feet, while Racquel impressed the lot with her strong strut. But it was Eloisa, again, who won the challenge with her pony walk and won a dinner date with Philippine model with Will Devaughn.
The week's photo shoot involved facing the camera with absolutely no make-up on. This made Jeri freak out, since she have a minor skin problem. Racquel, again, blew the shoot away, Roxanne, having a hard time with no hair and Blanca with the dead eyes. Back at the house, Jeri shaved her head, due to depression and frustration, she said that she should have gone bald and not Roxanne for her features are stronger.
At judging, Jeri was criticized for her absentmindedness and not embodying what was given to her. Racquel, Eloisa and Madeleine blew the judges away with their striking photos. While, Katrina, Danielle Joie, Abigail and Marianne were criticized for their common faces. Jeri, again and Katrina landed in the bottom 2. Joey told Jeri that she needs to embody her look and follow directions but handed her her photo, saying that bald was good for her. Katrina was sent home due to not standing out and personality lackadaisical.

Episode 4
The girls were hosting a party at the house, however Jeri was quite weird that day that she was continuously in argument with Shanna, when Shanna pointed a finger at Jeri, Jeri rapidly bit it, though it did not bleed, Shanna was very hurt.
At the house party, there was an actual challenge, where the girls would present themselves to the industry's tycoons on fashion. Danielle Joie won by displaying her bubly personality.
At the next photoshoot, ER welcomed the girls and told them that they would do Fashion Cover Try. Almost everyone did a great job, except Jeri who keeps on displaying a grin, Blanca who went nuts on her wardrobe malfunction and Roxanne on her consciousness.
At panel, the girls received fair criticisms, Eloisa was praised for her versatility and fluidity. Jeri and Blanca landed in the bottom 2, Jeri was criticized for her striking appearance but cannot turn into a good photo and Blanca on her coasting status in the competition. Blanca was eliminated for her lack of modeling potential.

Episode 5
The girls were quite glad of Blanca's elimination, finally they have peace in the house and concentrated more in practicing their facial expressions in the mirror and their runway walk. Joe Mail arrives and tells them to be an "Inspiration". The girls pack and proceed to Philippines' School of Fashion Design, where each of them are assigned to a designer in which they have to inspire to create an outfit. Eloisa, as usual had trouble communicating her ideas, where as Racquel and Danielle Joie thought that they had the challenge in the bag. The girls stated their designs and will sport the clothes the next morning in a fashion show sponsored by the school. At the fashion show the next morning, Melissa tripped and lost her confidence, Eloisa made an awkward walk, Shanna flumbered with her speech of inspiration and Madeleine ruined her dress. Meanwhile, Ruby rocked her strut and Danielle Joie was so bubly in the runway. However it was Jeri who won the challenge, because the designer she was assigned to was totally inspired by her. She was so natural, the judges said. Jeri chose, Danielle Joie and Roxanne to share her prize of pamper day.
For the week's photoshoot the girls have to pose as flowers.

During judging, the judges criticized Shanna's drive to become a Top Model and Abigail, Danielle Joie and Jennylene's heights with respect to winning in this competition and surviving the fashion industry. The judges praised Jeri in embodying the Rafflesia though the flower is not so pleasant she still rocked her shoot. Eloisa was again praised for her versatility and Racquel for her awesome charm. They warned Roxanne about her weight and Ruby with her dead eyes.
Shanna and Abigail landed in the bottom 2, Shanna was eliminated since she told the judges she didn't want to continue in the competition.

[edit] The Girl Who Looked Old
Episode 6
The girls were totally shocked by the departure of the modelesque Shanna, and that placed the girl in doubting their drive to win the competition. Joey arrived at the house and talked to each girl, asking each one of them, if they still want to continue. All the girls said yes and this made Joey really happy. The week's challenge was a group challenge the 3 groups of models have to perform a TV ad, with their own scripts and art direction. Eloisa, Jeri, Ruby and Madeleine presented a soap ad, that looked mediocre and cheesy. Jennylene, Melissa, Marianne and Roxanne presented a perfume ad that was all over the place. Hence, Danielle Joie, Racquel, Kristia and Abigail won the challenge, where in they presented a feminine wash ad. They were praised for being realistic and bubly. They won diamond rings and necklaces.
Back in the house Jeri and Abigail broke into an argument, with the tall Jeri, Abigail really has the disadvantage, resulting to Abigail shouting curses at Jeri telling her that she looked old, compared to Abigail who was very teeny. Almost all the girls agreed with Abigail, leaving Jeri all alone.
Joey Mail arrives saying, "Old Clothes, Cold, Umbrella", this left the girls wondering again about the photoshoot. The week's photoshoot actually was to pose in Old High Fashion Victorian Gowns in a Semi Dark Clothes and holding an umbrella. ER said that the feeling is really old, but the key is not looking old. This bothered Jeri who thinks that everyone thinks that she looks old. In her photoshoot however, ER commended her for it was the first time that her eyes were not dead and her pose was magnificent. Danielle Joie, made herself look tall and ER told Racquel that it was her worst shoot to date. Roxanne managed to smile with her eyes, but sticking to that old era. Ruby, Melissa and Eloisa also did well in their respective shoots. It was Abigail, Marianne and Jennylene who had trouble. Abigail kept complaining that her gown was very itchy. Jennylene was again returning to that awkward performance and Marianne second guessing herself again.
At judging, Joey commended all the girls for their desire and passion for the competition. Danielle Joie was praised for her outstanding performance that week, and the judges hoped for consistency. Elimination time and it was down to Abigail and Jennylene, Joey told them that they are the shortest girls in the group yet they are not making up to their lackings. Jennylene was spared another week for Joey saw in her, her will for the competition, while Abigail just complained in the shoot.

Episode 7
The girls then went to Luneta Park for the week's challenge. The girls have to walk the grassy area of the Quirino Grandstand, while wearing 4-inch heels and a long flowy dress. Each girl strut their stuff, unfortunately, Jeri tripped, broke her heels and tore her dress, leaving her dismantled and really embarrassed. Ruby almost got the same fate, but managed to regain her composure. Roxanne, Melissa, Madeleine and Eloisa managed to deliver their personalities in the runway. But Marianne, Jennylene and Kristia, got stuck in the mud and swerved all around the area.
For the week's photoshoot the girls have to pose vegetables in the nursery rhyme Bahay Kubo.

Jennylene's height is a huge problem because the photographer tears her to shreds about it, while Jeri does okay for once. Jennylene is chastised again for her dwindling performance and Kristia's shows an attitude that the judges had never seen. Kristia's attitude is deemed not as bad as Jennylene's performance and Jennylene is eliminated.

Episode 8
This week on Philippines' Next Top Model, the girls learned about Philippine folklore and legends, taught by some native dancers. Jeri knows a lot about folkore and was a bit of a show off and a brag when the dancers asked her questions. Roxanne knew nothing but took good notes, Eloisa was a bit confused and didn't know what to do when the dancers asked her a question. For the challenge, the girls were tested on the legends that they learned about and Roxanne won, choosing Kristia and Racquel to go to a fancy restaurant for dinner. The other girls had to be waitresses at the restaurant but Roxanne and Kristia made fun of Jeri and Jeri spilled champagne on Roxanne on purpose, getting her fired from the restaurant. For the photo shoot each girl was given a Filipina folk legend to be.

Jeri was great but Melissa and Marianne couldn't get a good shot at all. At judging, neither Marianne or Melissa could explain why they were so terrible but Jeri was very happy. She confessed that she had been "afraid of her reflection" for the past couple of weeks because of her terrible performance but now she felt better about herself. In the end, Melissa was deemed to have more potential than Marianne and Marianne was eliminated.

Episode 9
This week the contestants learned about their positive features and what makes them have the potential to be a supermodel. For the challenge, the girls were put into teams of 3. Each team was given a name and was told to embody that name with clothes and be mannequins on display for their team. Team 1 was Jeri, Roxanne and Melissa who were given the name "Simple and Clean", Team 2 was Eloisa, Joie and Racquel who were given the name "Sexy and Sophisticated" and Team 3 was Ruby, Madeleine and Kristia and was given the name "Fashion Goth". Team 1 was by far the best dressing in simple white colors and having simple poses, Team 2 was a little too sleazy but it was okay with rocking poses and Team 3 was a mess. Team 1 wins, of course, and gets a night on the town and they get to keep their outfits that they used. The photo shoot is a high fashion shoot where each contestant is a different planet.

Eloisa wished she was not Pluto and Roxanne wanted to be something other than Earth but both pull off great shoots. Melissa freaks out everyone when she says "What about planet Nemic?", she then says that she thought that Neptune was pronounced "Nemic". This creeped out all the other girls, even Jeri (who has been noted for doing odd things). At the judging, Melissa does okay, Racquel rocks her shoot and Roxanne is amazing. The bottom 2 is Joie and Kristia but in the end, Kristia's terrible shoot is considered to be weaker than Joie's beauty queen personality and Kristia is sent home.

[edit] The Girl Who Wins A Pageant
Episode 10
This week the 8 remaining girls learn about body image and self-confidence. This is a moment where the plus-sized girl of the group, Ruby tenses up and is very rude to the guest speaker. Jeri says that she was never considered beautiful, but while she is talking Roxanne and Racquel mock her facial expressions and her appearance. Jeri then cries and runs up to her room after the guest speaker leaves, making Madeleine sleep on the couch for the night. The next morning is the challenge, where the 8 girls are broken up into 2 groups: Roxanne, Jeri, Madeleine and Ruby, and then Eloisa, Racquel, Melissa and Joie. The girls must then come up with a campgaign for self-confidence by doing a photo, shot by Joey. Group 1 takes a picture that shows Roxanne, Madeleine and Ruby in a group and Jeri running to them. Joey doesn't understand their concept and says it was a little confusing. Group 2 shows Eloisa, Racquel, Melissa and Joie all smiling and hugging. Joey says that Group 2 wins and they all get 10 extra frames at their photo shoot. At the house, Jeri blames Roxanne on their failure and the two get into another argument. Jeri then screams that she hates Roxanne and Roxanne pushes Jeri into a door.

Jeri can't translate her natural beauty onto film, Ruby is not a convincing religious woman, Racquel rocks at her photo shoot, Eloisa is very good but isn't very dynamic and then Joie rocks as a beauty queen, causing the photographer to say that she would win her pageant. At judging, Ruby's full-figured body and her large breasts are a problem for her portrayal as a religious person and Roxanne had humongous issues with her overall pacakge but in the end it was Jeri and Ruby in the bottom 2 with Ruby being sent home.

Episode 11
With only so many competitors remaining, Joey decides that it times the girls went abroad. So, she arrives at their house to tell them that they will be going to London, UK! The girls then get ready for their plane ride but Eloisa is deathly afraid of planes and can barely move. Jeri makes fun of her while she is packing and then Eloisa calls her a "Stupid, old-looking, biter who looks like a stripper and acts like one too!" Jeri then breaks down and admits to her only friend in the house Joie that she once was a dancer and that it hurts to hear it from Eloisa, the nicest girl in the house, that she thinks Jeri is like a stripper. But anyways, the girls get to the airport and Eloisa starts to cry and then, she almost faints. Joey and a few other girls help Eloisa onto the plane and then she falls asleep soon after. As the girls arrive in London they are immediately given a photo shoot. They must get topless in traditional Filipina skirts and then pose as a group in front of the camera. The only girl who has a problem with the nudity is Melissa, who wishes not to embarras her family. So, she only takes 5 shots and then demands to be taken off the set. There is also a challenge where the girls must runway walk in 7 1/2 inch heels, Jeri wins and chooses Joie to be her roommate at the house. The girls then move into the house but their joy is short lived because that night, there is a judging. The bottom 2 turns out to be Melissa and Eloisa, Melissa did not give good reasons for her decision to stop shooting and Eloisa was the only girl who blended in with the others. However, in the end it is Melissa who goes home because she could not support her views.

Episode 12
The recap episode. This is named after Keziah, Ruby and Jennylene who made up a secret language to describe the other contestants, words like "hertalated" and "smoogly".

Episode 13
With Melissa's departure, the girls were quiet shocked since Melissa was deemed to be the most high fashion among the group. ER came and surprised the girls that they are going to the world's fashion capital, Paris, France. The girls were so thrilled that they did not even notice Melissa enter the room with Joey. Joey announced that Melissa is back to the competition. This left some other girls shocked and annoyed, especially Racquel who has a terrible dislike to Melissa. Joey and ER left and the girls are left to talk to Melissa. Melissa continuously grumbles about the fact that she doesn't want to model and is frustrated that she's being forced.The girls pack their bags, off to the airport that freaks Eloisa for the 2nd time with her fear of air travel. This time, Eloisa was edated and put off to sleep to avoid so much ordeal.
Arriving at Paris, the girls learned that their first challenge was the "go-sees" with some of the Most High Fashion Designers such as Dolce & Gabbanna, Alexander McQueen, Prada, BCBG, Louis Vuitton, Yves Saint Laurent and Gucci. However, the designers were less than impressed with girls, especially with Jeri cause each designer was scared to death and even commented that Jeri looks like a monster. Melissa couldn't take the criticism and told the show management that she will quit. She opted to go back to the Philippined. Even though the designers dont want any girl, Racquel was chosen as the winner and received dresseds, gowns and bags from the designers.
For the photoshoot the girls pose underwater as Sea Creatures. Jeri tried to commit suicide from the harsh criticisms from the designers and failed to participate in the photoshoot.

At panel, the judges ignored what the designers said and praised the girls for their strength. Jeri was punished for commiting a mortal sin and she landed in the bottom two for the nth time with Roxanne. However, Roxanne was sent home for Jeri's body of work was so much better than hers. Furthermore, Jeri clinged to Joey's feet and kissed it much to the other judges' dismay. Having pity for the fool, Joey handed Jeri's photo.
