Colin Philip Lowrie (born in Ashton under Lyne in 1936) is an English actor. The son of a foreman in a paper mill, on leaving secondary school his mother managed to save enough money to pay his fees at RADA where he studied for three years.
He became one of Britain's best known actors in 1960, when he played Dennis Tanner, the son of Elsie Tanner in Coronation Street. He also did the voice over for the popular Channel Four TV Quiz: Fifteen to One. He was also a regular performer on Victoria Wood's TV shows: All Day Breakfast, The Mall, Pat and Margaret, Live In Your Own Room, We'd Like To Apologise, The Library, As Seen On TV and Wood and Walters. Other TV work includes: Death Has A Bad Reputation, Rules of Engagement, Radical Changes, Andy Capp, Crown Court, War and Peace, Tycoon, Company and Co, Soft Touch, East Lynne, The Cuckoo Waltz, The Liverbirds, Cilla's World of Comedy, Kate, Devenish, Golden Hill, Notorious Women, Galloping Galaxies and Doctors.
