Philip Herbert Eliot

Philip Herbert Eliot was Bishop of Buckingham from 1921 to 1944. Born in 1862[1] into an eminent ecclesiastical family[2] on 5 October 1860, he was educated atMarlborough College and Oriel College, Oxford[3] and ordained by the Bishop of Winchester in 1886[4]. After a curacy at Portsea and spells as the incumbent at Winslow and Upton-cum-Chalvey he was appointed Rural Dean of Burnham before his ascension to the Episcopate. Described in hisTimes obituary as
”A man of natural ability and sound judgement, strictly impartial in his decisions”[5]
