[edit] Early career
His first experience of radio was while he was studying at Birmingham Polytechnic, although his broadcasting career began properly in 1987. He started on BRMB, presenting the lunchtime show, a Friday evening show devoted to dance music (which could also be heard on Mercia and Leicester Sound) and Saturday Breakfast. He later took over the drivetime show, then the mid-morning show, and finally the afternoon show in 1997.
[edit] Heart FM
1998 saw him move from BRMB to 100.7 Heart FM, where he presented the weekday afternoon show from 1-4pm. However, he was also to be heard at this time on Galaxy 102.2 hosting a weekly dance music show every Sunday from 12-2pm.
[edit] Back to BRMB
Having spent five years at Heart, he moved back to BRMB in 2003. There he took over the Weekday Mid-Morning show from 9am-1pm and a Saturday morning slot from 9am-midday. In addition, he also hosted a Saturday evening show where he played music from right across the decades. He remained at BRMB until the summer of 2006.
[edit] Current Work
Phil can now be heard on BBC WM, as the Breakfast show presenter every Monday - Friday from 6:30am to 10am. The show includes a mix of news, chat, topical discussion and also a Guess the Year hour, where he plays snippets of tunes which made the charts in a particular year.
Phil lives in Warwickshire with his wife Katherine and their two children, James (born 17 May 2001) and Charlotte (born 15 November 2004). He is an ardent Aston Villa supporter.
