Phil Spitalny

Phillip "Phil" Spitalny (b. November 7, 1890, Tetiev, Ukraine, Russian Empire [now independent Ukraine] - d. October 11, 1970, Miami Beach, Florida [1]) was a jazz musician known for his work on the radio, for which he earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. While imdb.com cites Spitalny's place of birth as Odessa, Ukraine, he was actually born in a Ukrainian town called Tetiev[citation needed]. He is buried in the Tetiever section of Ridge Road Cemetery #2 in a western suburb of Cleveland, Ohio with other members of his family. [2]. He fronted for Phil Spitalny and His All-Girl Orchestra, also called the Hour of Charm Orchestra during the time when it appeared on a radio program of that title, hosted by Arlene Francis.
Spitalny wrote music with jazz musician Lee "Stubby" Gordon.[3]
