Phellinus pini is a plant pathogen.

The common name for this pathogen is Red ring rot. Log scalers simply refer to it as white speck. Historically, it has caused massive economic losses to the unsuspecting who have purchased older timber stands expecting good yields of lumber, as its presence often degrades a large tree to pulp wood quality.[1] It's a rot of the heartwood. It reproduces by working out a rotten knot and growing a spore body or 'conk' on the outside of the tree.[2]
