This Phantom is a FG-1 (F-4K) as 43 sqn & 111 sqn were the sole users of this variant following the retirement of the Royal Navy FG1's. Prior to this 43 sqn were formed at RAF Leuchars in 1969 on the FG1, with 111sqn coming north from Coningsby in 1977 exchanging their FGR2's for FG1's in the process. Both squadrons now operate Tornado F3's from Leuchars - making 43 sqn probably the longest serving squadron from a single location in the history of the RAF - currently 38 years at Leuchars.
