[edit] Welcome

Hello, Ph0kin, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you very much for your contributions so far. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

You might also want to consider changing your username before you get too invested in your current one. Although you are allowed to use just about any name, many Wikipedians encourage others to use real names. I would suggest that you do this. I can certainly understand that you might be uncomfortable using your real name online, but, in this case, I recommend that you choose an alias that resembles a real name. For instance, my name is Nat Krause, but I could just as well have a username such as "Eli Miller" or "Abe Sokolov".

If you are choosing a pseudonym, please do not use the names of famous people or fictional characters. An obscure literary reference is probably all right. As always, please avoid anything that could be considered offensive or inappropriate.

Note that, on Wikipedia, you can use spaces and capital letters; for instance, "T. K. Truong" is possible, rather than simply "tktruong".

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and vote pages using three tildes, like this: ~~~. Four tildes (~~~~) produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! - Nat Krause(Talk!) 22:50, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] content removal

It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from an article. Please be careful not to remove content from Wikipedia without a valid reason, which you should specify in the edit summary or on the article's talk page. Take a look at our welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. --Ixfd64 06:22, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to WP:WikiProject_Buddhism

Hi Ph0kin - I see you recently added your name to the participants on Wikipedia:WikiProject_Buddhism and I wanted to welcome you to the group.

I especially appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge of Pure Land Buddhism. If I may suggest, I think one of the difficulties of our community's developing meaningful Buddhism articles is that there are so many different schools of thoughts and teachers. Thus, the practice of a few sometimes (unintentionally) becomes the inappropriate focus of an article. Thus, if you ever see a WP Buddhism article develop in a way that you feel runs contrary to your understanding of Buddhism, please speak up. Your sharing your practice wisdom in an earnest and thoughtful manner will always be a great benefit to other sincere practitioners.

May you be well and happy! Best regards, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 14:10, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki edits

Hi Ph0kin -

Following up on your request, I reviewed your edits to the D.T. Suzuki article. You write very well and the material you introduce is interesting and significant. If I may suggest, I personally find that the best way to protect against reversions, edit wars, etc., is to provide citations (for instance, using the <ref> and </ref> tags — let me know if you'd like me to elaborate); this way you provide an externally verifiable source for your information. In addition, it could help people further discuss the material with you. (For instance, I occasionally see what appears to me to be school-specific changes to articles, but since people often don't provide citations, I have little basis for engaging them or appreciating their knowledge source.)

More generally, I'm sympathetic to the point you raise since, as I'm sure you have reflected, WP lacks a mechanism for assuring quality edits. Sometimes I fantasize that the good folks identified on Wikipedia:WikiProject Buddhism could provide such oversight of WP Buddhism articles but I'm not sure we have the group cohesion or actual expertise to implement such stabilizing guidance.

Hope this helps a wee bit. Keep up the good work! Best wishes, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 12:59, 17 January 2007 (UTC) [late for work yet again!]

[edit] Nice Buddha edits; modified Template:Buddhism edits

Hi Ph0kin,

How are you doing?

First, I wanted to applaud your Buddha article edits. I think they were smart and well placed. Well done!

Second, I hope you don't mind, but I took out the Prajnaparamita Sutras entry in the Template:Buddhism because -- while these sutras are of course core to most Mahayana/Vajrayana sects -- they are already included in the referenced Mahayana Sutras. Given the sidebar's existing length, many of us have tried to keep down redundancy, etc. (For instance, someone had Pali Canon and Tipitaka entries in this sidebar recently (or something like that) and these entries were also removed.) I hope this makes sense. If not, feel free to revert my change, of course. Because of your invaluable efforts on WP Buddhism, I just wanted to make explicit any change I made that you might object to.

I hope you are doing GREAT! Thanks again for making Wikipedia a better, smarter place. With metta,
Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 23:20, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Your thoughtful kindness & understanding are the beauty of Wikipedia :-) Thanks again, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 17:58, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pure Land/Shingon sections greatly expanded

You're doing great work! It's a pleasure to read your writing since you write so well. And I appreciate the citations you've been adding to increase the articles' credibility. Moreover, I really enjoy seeing how you are filling in missing gaps (e.g., Shan-tao) and creating cohesive frameworks (e.g., Jodo Shinshu Patriarchs) for Jodo Shinshu newbies (such as myself) to better grasp and appreciate Jodo Shinshu. Well done! Best wishes, Larry Rosenfeld (talk) 17:13, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Risshō Kōsei Kai

Hello, you said that you knew alot about Japanese Buddhism...have you ever heard of Rissho Kosei Kai? I am a member of this amazing buddhsit sect and am looking to talk to others who are members or who know of the faith. Thank you and may Lord Buddha bless you.--Greenwood1010 12:36, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Buddhist cuisine

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Buddhist cuisine, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
