I have heard and found reference to 'pew rents' in the history of several Episcopal or Anglican parishes, mostly in the context of reporting the decision of said parishes establishing themselves as "'free' churches". I wish I had thought of that before. Instead of asking what it meant, I could have just added it to the article myself. However, this would require knowing how to add a Wiktionary link. As you can tell by my lack of a username, I am not that devoted to Wikipedia. I am a reader, not an editor. If I find a piece of misinformation that I can correct, I may do so, but I am too busy to actively search for new content. Also, I am now familiar enough with this community to know that adding an etymology section would almost certainly be met with denouncements of unencyclopedicness. [edit] Merge proposal

I've proposed merging Box pews into Pew. The article Box pew already exists as a redirect to pew, so if a merge isn't appropriate, box pew needs to be deleted so box pews can be moved to the correct name. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fabrictramp (talk • contribs) 01:01, 12 February 2008 (UTC)

I'm the originator of the Box pews article, and a newbee to Wikipedia. I do not know how to merge the article with Pew, and would appreciate help from someone more expert than me. Also, I do not understand the suggestion that the article is a stub for fruniture. Please help. Thanks! Paul wainwright photography (talk) 16:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Box pews are so distinctive and unique that they deserve to be treated separately. The article is currently rather New England oriented but they have an important history in England and feature in literature. I would be in favour of developing the article, and then reconsidering. I have put a bit of body into the box pew article. There are over 60 articles that refer to box pew and should therefore link. So I suggest adopting option 2 and moving the article to Box pew and deleting or redirecting the plural one. Motmit (talk) 18:51, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
