Peugeot 608

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 607's replacement, the Peugeot 608, was previewed by the Peugeot 908 RC concept sedan at the Paris Motor Show. The response to the concept has been mainly positive and the angular styling of the 908 RC could reach the production 608.

Rumours have circulated in the automotive press and enthusiast community of a new, more powerful, PSA 3.0-3.5 V6 (250+ bhp) engine and a 4.0-5.0 V8 (350+ bhp), a coupe-like styling theme (eg. Mercedes-Benz CLS) and a four wheel drive and/or rear wheel drive system to make the model competitive with the established German, British and Japanese vehicles in the mid-size luxury segment. Peugeot is also considering a longitudinal, rather than transverse, layout as well as lightweight aluminium monocoque or spaceframe construction. The engines may come from present partners Ford, BMW, Toyota and/or Fiat or they will be developed in-house. The vehicle may have the dynamics that Peugeots are world renowned for and the quality of luxury premium vehicles. A performance RC variant may exist with a V8, V10 or V12 using petrol or HDi.
