[edit] Concerning your edits to John Mark McMillan
If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:
- editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
- participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
- linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
- and you must always:
- avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.
Accounts used solely for blatant self-promotion may be blocked indefinitely without further warning.
For more details, please read the Conflict of Interest guideline. Thank you.
Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to Wikipedia. However, please know that editors do not own articles and should respect the work of their fellow contributors. If you create or edit an article, know that others are free to change its content. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you.
I would also like to make it clear that I am not accusing you of having a conflict of interests or assuming ownership of the article John Mark McMillan, but, rather, pointing out the Wikipedia policy to you. According to Wikipedia policy, if consensus is built otherwise, your edits can be changed at any time without notice. I have not reverted your edits, seeing as doing so could be viewed as claiming ownership of the article myself, especially since, as of the present time, the two of us are the only real contributors to the article. However, I would like to stress that, at any time, any user can replace the information that you removed or provide the article with additional information. As has been said in other situations, what a band or individual would like to be labeled as is not as important as what the general public considered them to be. Thank you. —Mears man 13:26, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
