Today, the WEY Group is the world’s leading provider of integrated traders’ workstations, but is also focusing increasingly on security control centers in addition to providing dedicated solutions in the health care and infotainment segments. The list of customers includes some of the world’s leading banks. Since the management buyout in 2003, the WEY Group has been owned in equal shares by Mario Okle and Armin Klingler. The Group now encompasses WEY Elektronik AG in Unterengstringen, WEY Technology AG in Rotkreuz as well as numerous, rapidly growing service and sales and marketing organizations the world over. The product range is undergoing constant development and is being expanded to include further innovative solutions. The result: Sales have increased tenfold from initially CHF 3 million to now CHF 45 million and a workforce of 85. [2]

[edit] The History

The beginning

The inspiration to establish an independent company came about in 1980, when the Zurich Stock Exchange issued an inquiry about the distribution of data from 24 terminals (now referred to as PCs) to 600 stock exchange traders’ screens. With an ingenious idea and the unrestrained will to offer a perfect solution, Hubert Wey developed the first monochrome video matrix, which was technically unequalled at the time, within the space of only 6 months. This first project marked the beginning of WEY’s success story. However, growth and profit were never top priority for Hubert Wey. The primary objective of the company’s founder was to establish a small yet highly specialized company focusing on trading room solutions for banks. The first milestone in the history of the WEY Group was the foundation of WEY Elektronik AG by Hubert Wey and his wife Marlise Wey. [3]

[edit] The growth

WEY Elektronik AG developed the first monochrome monitor in 1984, followed by high-resolution twisted pair data lines in 1986. From 1988 on, a series of RGB video converters made the company famous far beyond Switzerland’s borders. With Mario Okle and Armin Klingler, who joined the company in 1993 and 1995 respectively, the organization of the company was bolstered to handle future challenges.

Only a year later, Mario Okle and Hubert Wey saw the opportunity to penetrate into a niche market with an innovative new product. A major bank based in Zurich completely reequipped its trading room. Mario Okle and Hubert Wey had analyzed the rival products and developed on paper a video switch system of their own, which combined all the advantages of the systems available on the market at the time in a single product. The problem was that the solution only existed on paper. “Our solution was half the size and only half as expensive as the rival systems. Looking back, it was sheer madness to offer a product at that stage,” explains Mario Okle recalling the start of an unbelievable success story.

A trader workstation today boasts between two and eight screens, displaying information from a wide array of different systems and sources. WEY products make it possible to quickly and comfortably control up to 8 monitors with a keyboard and a mouse and distribute data signals between various users. Via a single fiber-optic cable, all workstations can now be linked up to workstations located in a separate room. The trader is able to switch between PC applications, TV, information or trading systems at the push of a button. Thanks to the rigorous exchange with its customers and the constant development of its products, the WEY Group is able to offer an integrated system for optimal trader workstations and for security control centers in addition to specialized applications in the health care and infotainment segments that is absolutely unique.

From 1996 on, an international sales and marketing organization with subsidiaries all over the world was set up under the name WEY Technology. Parallel to this the product range was constantly developed and expanded to its current position of opearating in 11 different countries. The picture below give you an overview of the organization and its structure.

[edit] Products

WEY Technology have 5 ranges of products; keyboards, KMVA Switches, Allocation System, Remote Solutions (CATx), Remote Solutions (Fiber). [5]

Keyboards WEY Technology has developed keyboards that allow a single keyboard and mouse to control several local workstations with just one press of a button. The keyboards are modular and can be individually configured to meet user, hardware and application requirements. A PC and workstations, whose application licenses are generally very expensive, can for example be shared by several keyboards and users. The latest models can also display video signals (you can watch the news on your keyboard!) and personalized information on the keyboard display. [6]
