Pete Harris

My main interest is in linguistics, especially theoretical syntax. I hold an MA from University College London and I am currently working on a PhD in the area of the syntax (i.e. distribution and intrasentential relations) and semantics (meaning, esp. to the extent that it affects the distribution) of words like 'himself' in English, which are generally referred to as 'reflexives' or 'anaphors'. I have a more general interest in the 'cognitive science' research (as described e.g. by Steven Pinker in The Language Instinct (1994) and How the Mind Works (1997)), in which context linguistics since the 1950s has been done.
