[edit] syphilis

The article as currently written suggests that the word "Franzosenkrankheit" was used for syphilis only if it was contracted in that area of Strasbourg. That seems a bit odd to me. The German-language article on Strasbourg (de:Straßburg#Sehenswürdigkeiten und Baudenkmäler) says there used to be a military hospital on the island where German soldiers were treated for syphilis. Another theory is that the name is derived from French soldiers ("die die Blätter der dort stehenden Weiden für heilsam hielten"). --Mathew5000 23:02, 14 June 2006 (UTC)
