shouldnt something be added about abigail clancy. as crouch has become the centre of media attention because of her antics. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Magnoliapaint (talk • contribs) 18:29, 21 July 2006.
- I do not think it should. Those matters are hardly encyclopaedic and Wikipedia does not pay a great deal of attention to the tabloid press. -- Alias Flood 17:46, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Some people don't allow criticism
Crouch's goal in the Trinidad match was clearly illegal. Look at these videos ...

... and this article ...

Only deluded people can see this goal as legal.
-
- what did the officials at the game see it as? right or wrong, an encyclopedia like wikipedia should go with their decision. SnaX 14:23, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Picture of Peter Crouch
Why not put a picture of Crouch in the Champions League jersey, instead of the England jersey which is like being dominated by Owen and Rooney more often than any other English strikers? It gives a better sense of belonging to the wonderful Crouch as well. --chapter1 09:26, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
I am Crouchy's biggest fan, please put a pic of him on here! Hanz :D
"nodding in a Gerrard cross for the first and a coolly-taken second" -- is this neutral?
Is a goal-by-goal account of his recent exploits really necessary? --Scarfo 00:44, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
- I agree, just because he barely ever scores doesn't mean we need a play-by-play of all his goals. Imagine how long Shevchenko, Henry or Van Nistelrooy's pages would be then! James 24 87 05:17, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
- As far as images are concerned, you might like to browse through Wikipedia:Images. On the other two points, I tend to agree with you. Be bold
- Finally, welcome to Wikipedia. Why not make it 'legal'?. :) -- Alias Flood 04:07, 14 April 2006 (UTC)
-
- As far as the image goes.. The current one was uploaded by me, and taken by my mate (same goes for most photos of the Liverpool squad). He's in his Champions League jersey, and it show's his immense thin lankyness, but I think there's definitely scope for a better photo in the future. Alii h 00:23, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
-
- Huh? The photo's gone! Why on Earth would it have been deleted?
An interesting point, only partially related to this article is that BBC China asked my friend, the photographer of the image on this page, whether they could use the image in an article about him! He was rightly chuffed, see the article here: BBC China

Page needs editing, somons grafittied his biography (the first bit)

[edit] Robot Dance
Not sure if a mention of Crouchy's robot dance celebration of his 2nd England goal is worthy of entry in the encyclopaedia (although if someone can work it in successfully that would be great), but the great moment needs immortalising, so I’ve made this edit to the discussion page. I actually thought his moves were quite good, and his straight face made the dance even better. Drumnbach 00:37, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, Arctic Monkeys reference is very dodgy as well. Needs verifying or getting rid. Saveourcity 20:56, 03 June 2006 (UTC)

- Nah, he didn't bother after the third. aLii 21:18, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Native of Cheshire
I just noticed that this catagory was removed for the reason "he never really lived there for very long". I don't believe this is a good reason. Would you count Ryan Giggs as a native of Wales? I would, but he never really lived there for very long... I suggest that the catagory is re-added however dubiously useful it is. aLii 22:42, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Category:English people by county says: English people categorised by the English county that they are native to or long-term residents of. See #2 here. That's why I'm re-adding it. SLUMGUM yap stalk 22:51, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IFK Hässleholm
According to http://www.uefa.com/Competitions/UCL/Players/Player=48746/index.html Peter Crouch was on loan to IFK Hässleholm before signing for QPR. 81.179.93.219 10:01, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting indeed! I wonder how that came about? Shame that there's no IFK Hässleholm page. Google brings up the Swedish Wikipedia page, the third sentence of the page saying "Liverpool's forward Peter Crouch has been loaned to this team". It doesn't seem entirely clear though, some pages say it was a trial.. aLii 10:17, 5 June 2006 (UTC)
No IFK Hässleholm page?? http://www.ifkhassleholm.com
//A Swedish guy
- Indeed, that is not an IFK Hässleholm page, but merely being used as advertising space by a cybersquatter. What is your point? aLii 10:20, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- He meant to say "http://www.ifkhassleholm.se" (Its all in Swedish).

[edit] Related to Geri Halliwell?
I noticed that Jimster 260 added this random fact into the article's trivia section. I've deleted mainly because I couldn't find any evidence to back it up - is there any? Is it true? aLii 20:00, 7 June 2006 (UTC)
- A joint Google search for their names together on any pages doesn't produce anything indicating it. Sounds like rubbish to me. Angmering 20:45, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

- I have performed a similar search without any indication that Crouch is related to Geri Halliwell. I am now going to remove the information from the article and invite the poster to discuss the matter on this talk page. Alias Flood 20:02, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Nicknames
- I've reverted the edit saying that in Spain Peter Crouch is known as "La Girafa" as google shows a total of zero links.
- Also, would it be possible for all of the nicknames, other than Grouchy, to have sources? Thanks, TheJC TalkContributions 02:32, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
Sorry my mistake the nickname I heard was La Jirafa. [1]
Sometimes he is called "Crouchigol" on the guardian football blogs. It's a reference to Batistuta ("Batigol"), albeit tongue in cheek. 86.135.191.120 (talk) 16:15, 21 January 2008 (UTC)P

while playing for aston villa peter crouch aquired the nickname rodney because of his likeness to rodney trotter of only fools and horses fame.villa fans still chant rodney with affection when crouch visits villa park when liverpool play.
- If you can find a published citation for this then it can be added to the article. Angmering 13:28, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
- Look back through the article history. I'm sure when the "Rodders" nickname was listed I had put a reference with it from a national newspaper. It got deleted when someone decided that only one nickname should be quoted in the infobox and I didn't bother to argue. aLii 22:28, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Edits reverted by me at midday 20 June 2006 (UTC)
I have reverted 2 edits for the following reasons:
- edit by 213.42.21.75 (talk • contribs) difference
- I don't really see a "Sunday Newspaper" being a reliable source, even if it was referenced - and don't think it should actually be in an encyclopedia.
- edit by 82.42.123.102 (talk • contribs) difference
- I don't believe this link has anything to add to the article.
I have also cleaned up the external links section removing the following two external links as I don't believe they meet WP:EL or WP:SPAM:
- [http://www.dothecrouch.com/tees.html Peter Crouch Robot T Shirt]
- Site trying to sell unofficial merchandise
- [http://www.dothecrouch.com/mobile.html Peter Crouch Ringtones]
- Same site as previous link, but attempting to sell a ring-tone
TheJC TalkContributions 12:16, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
- Sunday newspapers are probably among the most reliable sources, tabloids are the ones to look out for. Things like the sunday telegraph are perfectly reputable. However I think that was a joke edit reffering to Crouchs physique. Philc TECI 17:42, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Discuss links here
Editors regularly clean out undiscussed links from this article. Please discuss here if you want a link not to be cleaned out regularly. (You can help!)
Are the links to youtube or in this case videoawards.com any more relevant than links to http://www.dothecrouch.com ?
http://www.dothecrouch.com is a site full of entries from Peter Crouch fans, surely this is relevant to the encyclopedias external links for Crouch ?

- Has the toss of a coin decide the winner in a knockout phase match in a World Cup? I was under the impression that previously they replayed tied matches if extra time produced no result. I thought coin-tossing was only used for determining ties in group phases - not in knockouts. But in any case, your suggestion is certainly OK by me. CarlosCoppola 19:48, 1 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Possible medical condition - relevant?
As an anonymous editor just removed (because of weasel words):
- Some medical observers have speculated that Peter Crouch's height and unusual physique may be attributable to the genetic condition Marfan syndrome[1]. This is merely an unconfirmed rumour at present.
I was pondering putting it back, but then thought it worthy of discussion first. I'm not sure whether it's relevant or not. It is interesting, but at the same time it is pure speculation. aLii 14:57, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Many tall people are generally 'lanky'so I don't know why everyone is saying his physique is unusual and as for his height - yes he's tall but it's not like he's the tallest person ever, many of my friends are 6ft odd and of a similar build! I doubt it's anything to do with arfan syndrome.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.31.1.173 (talk • contribs) 16:09, 19 August 2006
-
- It is not a case of just being tall and lanky. Marfanoid individuals have certain characteristics which Peter Crouch shares including a long arm span and certain types of facies. It is definitely worth including, because it is most probably true.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.55.68.107 (talk • contribs) 11:40, 20 August 2006
-
-
- When he would have that syndrome he wouldn't play soccer because there's a big chance for him to die when he plays soccer, like F.Hyman (who had Marfan but didn't know it) died from playing volleybal. When he would have Marfan he would be stupid to do professional sports because there's too much risk of getting a heart attack. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.11.190.175 (talk • contribs) 15:46, 13 October 2006

-
-
- Like many illnesses Marfan has a wide sprectrum of severity. If Crouch does have it then he would be pretty near the low end of the spectrum. Abraham Lincoln had it and stood under 6ft 4. However as it is pure speculation I wouldn't include it. SenorKristobbal 11:08, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

-
Unless he says publically that he has it, no mention should be made here or on the marfan page. Plenty of people have his appearance without having marfan. I do not agree with the previous poster who says "it most probably is true".
[edit] Chelsea fan
I've just reverted a bit of trivia info that says Crouch was a ballboy at Chelsea as a boy and is a Chelsea fan and he said so in a piece in the Times, but it didn't include the reference. I just did the google search site:timesonline.co.uk crouch chelsea ballboy and came up with this The Big Interview: Peter Crouch. It says:
- Crouch returns to an old haunt today. He was once a ball-boy at Stamford Bridge, and Bruce, his father, would take him to stand in the Shed. Posters of Gordon Durie and Kerry Dixon challenged for space on his wall with those of Les Ferdinand and Roy Wegerle. “My mates are either QPR or Chelsea, and I liked both. Everyone wants tickets for the game (today). I’ll get the QPR ones tickets and leave the Chelsea lads at home . . .
Not explicit, but implied perhaps. I had always heard that he was a QPR fan as a boy. Anyone got any further info before writing it into the article? aLii 08:15, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- Never include who a player supported as a boy unless they say it themselves on a reputable source. SenorKristobbal 11:09, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Article is unbalanced
I think that the International career section is rather too big at the moment. Large parts of it could be culled without losing much relevent information. Anyone agree? aLii 21:14, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Euro 2008 Qualifying?
Why is there a section titled Euro 2008 qualifying? All it mentions is Crouch's performance in a friendly against Greece, it has absolutely nothing to do with Euro 2008. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.78.64.106 (talk • contribs) 23:25, 28 August 2006
- I put it there, admittedly not a perfect positioning, but the game was a build-up friendly for the Euro 2008 qualifiers. aLii 11:49, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Senior Team
"In May 2005, he was handed his first call-up to the senior England squad by manager Sven-Göran Eriksson for the team's tour of the United States, making his debut against Colombia." Is there something missing here, or was Colombia playing England in the U.S. for some reason? Wencer 22:29, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
- I don't have a source (although I'm sure one can be found if you Google around), but I remember that the tour was in the US as Scott Carson had just been called up for the first time, and it was said he had a choice between flying out for the tour or going on Liverpool's open-top bus ride after winning the Champions League (in the end I think he did both). I also know that teams often tour the US and play other teams touring the US. As I say, I don't have a source off the top of my head, but I'm sure one can be found. The text from the article is accurate. KeithD 06:07, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
-
- Yeah they were playing in the U.S., have a look at the BBC Sport match report. It should perhaps be added as a reference. aLii 11:11, 31 August 2006 (UTC)
It was a 2 game tour of the US. They played the US in Chicago and then Columbia in New York. I was at the Chicago game and I swear Crouch played that game (3 days before Columbia...), so I think this is wrong, but I can't find a reference. (Unsigned comment by User:206.106.128.5 15:57, 6 June 2007)

- Unfortunately, the Premier League site's statistics are not always reliable. The heights quoted are significantly different to those in the individual players' articles which are: Zat Knight - 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m), Andreas Isaksson - 1.99 m (6 ft 61⁄2 in); Crouch - 6 ft 7 in (2.01 m). [edit] Chelsea fan as a kid
Crouch said today he was a QPR fan as a kid, he just went to chelsea games with his dad. He then went on to say he's now a firm Liverpool fan.
Meanwhile Crouch is keen to put one particular erroneous story to rest that circulated from a story on television this week which claimed that Liverpool's top scorer is a Chelsea supporter. "I was stitched up a bit with that," Crouch admitted. "When I was younger my dad did take me to see Chelsea, but when I was with my mates I was more a QPR fan, so it's not like I was ever a big Chelsea supporter. "You've also got to remember the Chelsea back then was nothing like the Chelsea it is now. I remember going along there when they were in the old Second Division. "Put it this way, there's no question where my allegiance is now. I'm firmly in the red camp. The same applies to my dad.

[edit] Crouch's future
The season starts and Crouch was left out of the squad for only technical reasons. I think MR.BENITEZ, like MR.WENGER at ARSENAL, will not rest until all english players are non-existent at their clubs, this is absolutely preposterous and i think chairmen at these clubs should stop acting like ever-pampering parents who give whatever their spoiled kids ask for. People should stop saying that JEAN-MARC BOSMAN and his rulings are to blame for the actual state of pro football, nothing further from the truth, THE BENITEZES, THE WENGERS (JUST TWO EXAMPLES) ARE!!! There is nothing racist in my remarks, but for instance, Benitez's action against Crouch and, get this!!! buying, other than the most known players, two teenage Bulgarians, two teenage Hungarians, a SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD countryman(boy?) (of course!!!) and, latest, a french goalkeeper to finish SCOTT CARSON'S chances of even being backup, fellow users at WIKIPEDIA, you tell me what message is the coach sending...Don't bother i tell you: ALL THE PLAYERS IN THIS COUNTRY ARE, IN THE SUPER VAST MAJORITY, PIECES OF HORSE MANURE (just check LIVERPOOL and ARSENAL reserve sides), SO I'LL HAVE TO LOOK ELSEWHERE!!! MY DADDY (Liverpool's chairman) TREATS ME RIGHT, SO NO WORRIES THERE!!
Feel free to disagree with this point of view, you can even call me a racist, i know what i have between my ears, would like to ear from somebody. FROM PORTUGAL,
