The last para/sentence "The advent of electronic toys gave a new boost to the idea: a Ragin' Rocky talking rock from Playmates Toys." looks and sounds pretty much out of place. More oddity in it are the words "Ragin' Rocky" and "Playmates Toys" which make the line look more like vandalism than a meaningful entry for the topic Pet Rock.

I have a pet rock her name is Rockzanne. My best friend has a rock too. His name is Larry. Our other friend has a rock that's name is Billy who's related to Larry the rock. Rockzanne and Larry are expecting twins, L.J. (Larry Jr.) and R.J. (Rockzanne Jr.) - Moved from Article —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.14.89.245 (talk • contribs) 07:27, 25 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] SJSU speaks without an accent

I'm not sure about that accent mark on "San Jose State University." The same applies on the B-L Contest's wikipage. Pasted from the contest's home page:

Since 1982 the English Department at San Jose State University has sponsored the Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest, a whimsical literary competition . . .

Huh? This article has nothing to do with San José State University. —QuicksilverT @ 19:53, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
there is a link to this page on the bulwer-lytton fiction page, which is about something set up at san jose —Preceding unsigned comment added by Saccerzd (talkcontribs) 14:43, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pets rock in popular (?) culture

In the web-based game Kingdom of Loathing, players can acquire a pet rock familiar. Most familiars in the game have some kind of special ability, such as attacking enemies or finding objects, but the pet rock's only ability is to sit motionless. Would that be relevant information for this article? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bonadea (talkcontribs) 11:30, 17 December 2006 (UTC).

  • Sigh -- I've still not learnt to sign my posts. That was me writing that Bonadea 11:30, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
I think that would be off-topic. This article is specifically about the short-lived 1970s fad toy. That kind of information about a "pet rock familiar" should be confined to Kingdom_of_Loathing, although it might be appropriate to provide a discussion there that links "pet rock familiar" back to Pet rock. If anyone is curious about other articles that mention Pet Rock while reading about the Pet Rock, all they need to is click on the What links here link on the left side of the screen. —QuicksilverT @ 07:48, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

The infringing content is the text immediately below the History header, down until the double line break. The stuff after that is Wikipedia original content. I've removed the infringing content and put it on the temporary page.
<rant>The way Wikipedia handles copyrighted material kind of sucks. I realize that the old revisions also need to be deleted, but do you really need to put that HUGEGANTIC notice on the page and tell people to stop editing it?</rant>
Don't worry about it, 90.204.237.221. Mistakes happen.--Theymos (talk) 04:28, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Images

The owner of Pet Rock Net has released these images under the GNU FDL:

The first one is uploaded and integrated into the temporary page. I've already done the OTRS email thing, so you should just have to upload them when you want to use them.--Theymos (talk) 23:30, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
