Petzl is a French manufacturer of climbing gear, caving gear, at-height work equipment, and headlamps based in Crolles (near Grenoble), France. The company was created by the cave explorer Fernand Petzl in the mid-1970s. His son Paul Petzl is the current CEO of the company.

Petzl was the first manufacturer[citation needed] to utilize light-emitting diode (LED) technology in its headlamps in 2000, resulting in more battery efficient headlamps. This technology was subsequently adopted by many other manufacturers in the outdoor industry.
