Dr. Petrika Troja graduated from the Faculty of medicine in 1967, in Tirana, part of the State University of Tirana.

Troja started his career at the Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (today known as the Institute of Health) in Tirana, where he specialized in Microbiology and where he worked for 3 consecutive years in the sector of Infective Intestinal diseases, under the guidance of the microbiologist Dr. Stefan Cilka.

Dr. Petrika Troja continued at the Faculty of Medicine (Infective Diseases department) at the University of Tirana, from 1970 until 1993 as a Professor of Microbiology. He taught general medicine to dentistry and pharmacy students, as well as instructing new microbiology doctors.

During his teaching and scientific activity, Dr. Petrika Troja has offered a special contribution towards the compilation of the actual scientific medical tests on the field of Microbiology and the field of Dentistry, General Medicine, and Pharmacy.

In 1977, Dr. Petrika Troja was selected amongst his colleagues for his special unique vision and for the practical contribution towards the Detection of the Viral Hepatitis B through the creation of the first laboratory in Albania able to detect such type of Virus. Dr. Petrika Troja, as a professor of Microbiology, did the actual practical unification of theoretical scientific studies and the implementation of the clinical part of his research. Such is considered an immense contribution towards the Hospital of Infective Diseases in Tirana, Albania and for the various many Infective Hospitals throughout Albania.

Dr. Petrika Troja based his scientific studies of Viral Hepatitis B in Albanian, on his practical word done on the laboratory of Microbiology, which he himself founded. He was rewarded with the scientific title “Candidate of Medical Sciences” PhD in 1982. Dr. Troja furthermore expanded the range of his scientific research by including Hepatitis A, B, C and Delta on his research and development work performed onto the Laboratory of Microbiology.

His scientific contribution furthermore was deepened when Dr. Troja implemented and deployed a secondary state of the art Microbiology Laboratory in Tirana,at the INSTITUTE OF PEDIATRIC. Many levels and sectors of Microbiological research were deployed at the laboratory, some of importance range from Parasitology, Enterobaktereology, Airborne Infectious diseases, and Viral Imunoseriology. Dr. Troja managed 26 employees while acting as a director of the Laboratory. He served with dignity and gratitude and under his guidance many of the 26 employees were able to attain scientific titles. A few worthy to mention are, Dr. Arjana Tamburi, Dr.Mira Shuteriqi, and Dr. Mimosa Leci.

In 1981 Dr. Petrika Troja, was appointed from the Faculty of General Medicine, as the main leader overseeing any specialization of any doctors of Microbiology, in the national level. Year 1981 to 1993 marks the time when the post University studies in Microbiology were well accepted and implemented on a National level. Its adoption on a National level meant that a well rounded post University curricula be developed and implemented. Dr. Troja contributed a great deal of scientific information towards the implementation and setup of the Microbiological post University curricula.

In regards to Dr. Troja’s scientific achievements, one can also point out the many Specializations that he has undergone. During 1971-1972, he underwent a Specialization in Shanghai, China, in the field of Electronic Microscopy and its implementation towards a practical Microbiological environment. Also, in 1990 Dr. Troja deepened his high scientific level with another specialization, this time, at the Instituto Superiore di Sanita, in Rome, Italy.

For his immense pedagogical contribution in the field of Microbiology, Dr. Troja, was awarded the title Docent. At the end of 1992, Dr. Troja, submits the complete dossier towards the application of the Professorship title. However, for personal leave reasons, such project never completed, as Dr. moved to the USA at the end of 1993.

However, even in the USA, Dr. Troja still continues to contribute his modest help to the field of Microbiology. He currently works at the Microbiology Laboratories of two well known NY hospitals such as Jacobi Medical Center, and MONTEFIORE Medical Center, both located in the Bronx, NY.
