Peter W. Chiarelli is a United States Army lieutenant general who assumed command of the Multi-National Corps - Iraq in January 2006. He was replaced by Raymond T. Odierno.
The United States Senate recently appointed him to the rank of general and assigned him to be the Vice Chief of Staff, United States Army, Washington, DC. He is currently serving as Senior Military Assistant to the Secretary of Defense, Office of the Secretary of Defense, Washington, DC.
Prior to commanding Multi-National Corps - Iraq, he was the commander, 1st Cavalry Division and led the division in the Iraq War. He holds a B.S. in political science from Seattle University, an Masters of Public Administration from the Daniel J. Evans School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington, and a Master of Arts in national security strategy from Salve Regina University. He is also a graduate of the United States Naval Command and Staff College and the National War College.[1]
