[edit] Biography

Peter Thompson attended Braniel Primary School as a child.

Peter joined Linfield after previously playing for St Andrews FC.

He was the Irish league's top goalscorer in 2005-2006, scoring 48 goals in 58 games in League and Cup competitions. These goals helped his club Linfield to not only the League title but also all three domestic cups - giving Linfield the clean sweep and leaving rivals Glentoran empty handed. Peter was the scorer of two goals in a 2-1 victory over Glentoran in the Irish League Cup Final. Peter is a fans' favourite and has been given the name 'Pistol Pete'. Starting beside Linfield Legend Glenn "Spike" Ferguson upfront they were a force to be reckoned with, in the 2005-06 season the a partnership collected 90 goals. Helping the team to 166 goals in just 60 games (2.77/game). He was linked with a move to Scottish side Gretna, but decided to stay at Linfield for the remainder of the season.

In February 2008 Thompson was linked with English Championship outfit Coventry City. It seems inevitable that Linfield will lose Thompson due to a desire of full time football. Thompson's resumé was further enhanced by scoring his first international goal in his seventh game for Northern Ireland in a 4-1 victory over Georgia in March 2008

Thompson has received seven caps for the Northern Ireland national team as of March 26, 2008.

He finished the 2007-2008 season as the top scorer in the local game, with 44 goals in 50 games (two of the games as a substitute). This included both of Linfield's goals in their 2-1 Irish Cup final victory over Coleraine, a game which saw Linfield win the league and cup double for a historic third successive season.
