Peter Novak

Peter Aerts also known as Peter Novak (Belgium/Leuven, 11th august 1973 - Belgium/Brussels 19th februari 2008), is one of Belgium's leading DJ's.

[edit] Biography

Peter was strongly influenced by the musical background of his father and started to work on an impressive record collection at the age of 15.

After his first try-out behind the decks in Leuven (BE) he is immediately rewarded with a residency. Silo, one of the better underground clubs in Belgium for over 10 years, becomes his outlet for many years to come.

During the summer of 1994, Peter packs his records and flies to Ibiza, not knowing what adventure he will play a part in. The chill-out lounge at Pacha (El Ciello) quickly becomes his nightly niche alongside Alfredo.

Back in Belgium, after living in Ibiza (Eivissa) for 6 months, Peter is spotted weekly at Cirao. His career is on a roll as he also assumes a residency alongside PhiPhi at the Legendary Mondays. At that time, these nights at club Extreme are a must in Belgium and even at this very moment, more than ten years later, they are still considered as top hightlights in Belgium's clubbing history. It is at the Legendary Mondays that Peter's hard work and devotion comes to real fruition for the first time. As one of Belgium's pioneer dj's, he there shares the decks with renowned dj's such as John Digweed, Danny Howells, Jimmy van M, Lee Burridge and many more.

In 1998, after club Extreme is forced to keep its doors closed, he becomes resident at Tour&Taxi (T&T) on Saturday. Not surprisingly, T&T quickly becomes the new hot spot in Brussels, with Peter confirming that even after the Legendary Mondays at Extreme, the future is all but dark!

Few years later, following his festival performance at the first edition of House Torhout (Belgium's first outdoor dance festival), Peter is offered the closing slot at the Main Stage of the 2002 Cityparade in Liège (BE). Peter plays one of those memorable "few in a lifetime"-sets and a few weeks later, he represents Belgium at the Nature One Festival in Germany. Peter re-confirms himself as one of Belgium's finest talents as in November that same year he is booked at the renowned I Love Techno indoor festival, warming the floor for international guests Timo Maas, Remy, Anthony Pappa, and The Youngsters as well as for the Belgian brothers The FilterHeadz.

Not even after a year he becomes THE resident at the "E-motionz"-parties taking place at the quality clubs Silo (Leuven), Café d'Anvers (Antwerp) and Fuse (Brussels), where he showcases his vast musical skills and takes up the decks alongside national and international talents. Again Danny Howells is one of the first to be invited on these well attended parties, laying the ground for his success in the hottest clubbing country in Europe. The next two years, artists such as Fabrice Lig, Jamie Anderson, John Digweed, Dubfire (Deep Dish) and Sasha come to Belgium as guests at these infamous nights.

At the same time, from 2004 on, Peter gains more and more of the well earned recognition abroad. He drops regular sets for the Istanbul posse and is a regular guest at Silly Symphonies in The Hague (Holland).

In 2005 & 2006, Peter is the driving force behind the "On The Decks" party series where he puts a Belgian dj in the spotlights with each new session. Add to that his continuing "E-motionz"-residency and guest appearances at various other party series and many one off parties, it is clear that Peter continues to mesmerize clubbing Belgium.

Constantly re-inventing himself, while at the same time staying true to his unique musical feeling and keeping up a high quality level throughout the whole of his career, it is only more than fair that Peter is considered as one of Belgium's leading DJs.

Moreover, Peter continuously puts up higher standards, as shown when, in 2005, he moves beyond the art of dj'ing and starts up "Novak & Therm" & "Mayan" as his two studio projects. Persistence, patience and devotion have brought the first project to a point of fruition.

Peter died the 19th februari 2008 in Brussels, his ashes scattered at the cemetery of Tienen (BE)
