Peter Hujar

Peter Hujar (1934-1987) was an American photographer known for his black and white portraits. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, United States. Hujar later moved to Manhattan to work in the magazine, advertising, and fashion industries. His subjects also consisted of farm animals and nudes. His most famous photograph is Candy Darling on Her Deathbed which was later used by the group Antony and the johnsons as cover for their album I Am a Bird Now. A one-time partner of artist David Wojnarowicz, Hujar died of AIDS complications on November 26, 1987.

The Estate of Peter Hujar is represented by the Matthew Marks Gallery, New York.
