[edit] Club
Doolan played his club hurling with the famous St. Finbar’s club on the southside of Cork city. He enjoyed some success with the club, beginning in 1965 when he captured a senior county championship title. This was later followed by a Munster club title. Doolan won a second county title in 1968.
[edit] Inter-county
Peter Doolan played a key role in the full-back line on the Cork senior hurling team throughout the 1960s. The early part of the decade was remarkably unsuccessful for the county, however, in 1966 Cork were back and Doolan, who was captain of the eam in the early rounds of the championship, captured his first Munster title. The county later defeated Kilkenny in the championship decider, giving Doolan a coveted All-Ireland medal as well as giving Cork a first All-Ireland victory since 1954.
