[edit] Storylines

Peter and his twin sister Lucy were born to Ian and Cindy Beale on 9 December 1993. He was named after his paternal grandfather, Pete Beale, who died on the day of his birth. Peter was brought up by both his parents until 1996, when Cindy absconded with him and his half brother Steven following her failed attempt to have Ian killed by a hitman. Peter was taken to Italy, where Ian found him in 1997 and brought him home without Cindy's consent. Cindy was given custody of all three children in 1998, but she was arrested directly after the court case for the attempted murder of Ian. She died during childbirth in prison, but her baby, Cindy, survived and was given to her maternal aunt Gina. Peter then grew up with various women acting as his stepmother, one of whom provided Peter with another half brother, Bobby, in 2003.

In May 2007, Ian and Peter went camping with Phil Mitchell and his son Ben. After Phil accidentally burnt his tent down, the group decided to drive home, but whilst arguing with Ian, Phil took his eyes off the road and swerved to avoid a fallen tree; the car flipped, crashed and rolled into a lake with Ben and Peter still inside. As the car sank and filled with water, Phil went into to rescue the boys; however, Peter's foot got caught on a seatbelt, he passed out and nearly drowned, but was saved by CPR from Phil.

A budding athlete, Peter's PE teacher told Ian that Peter could compete in the 2012 Olympics. Keen for Peter to succeed in this, Ian began to pressurise Peter to train hard, and was unhappy when Peter became distracted by his girlfriend Lauren Branning, who Peter began dating in December 2007. Lauren's father Max was equally displeased, especially when he caught Peter and Lauren playing truant and drinking alcohol. Their relationship suffered a further setback in January 2008, when Peter was refused permission to see Lauren by Ian.
