Peter Ashby

Born in Leyton in 1963, Peter Ashby is a multi-instrumentalist British musician and composer. He has been a member of several groups whilst also releasing solo material including much experimental music.
He started his musical career with Clacton-on-Sea's cult heroes Frenzid Melon before joining Blank Screens; Spasmodic Caress and then the insane picnic. Currently he is a member of Ermin Grud and works on solo projects under various names with a high focus on experimentalism. It was as bass guitarist for Spasmodic Caress that he recorded for the 4AD Records label and as multi instrumentalist with the insane picnic released several recordings for Falling A and Waterfall records.
He has recorded for the Six Armed Man label and many tracks recorded in the 1980s have appeared on Falling A Sampler albums. He has also collaborated with Barry Lamb on several projects and Martin Newell who sold him his original portastudio was a big influence on his DIY attitude. He has also recently appeared on the highly acclaimed and Grammy nominated CD The Pillory/The Battle by Jasun Martz.
