Neopets: Petpet Adventures: The Wand of Wishing, released on March 14, 2006, is a single-player PlayStation Portable action/adventure game based on the popular Neopets universe.[1]

The game takes place in the hidden Petpet world of Petaria, in which the player must retrieve the magical "Wand of Wishing" in order to succeed as a warrior.[2] There are four playable PetPets: Doglefox, Krawk, Mazzew, and Meowclops. There is also a wireless Battledome where a player's PetPet can fight his friends'. Throughout the game, the player can acquire items and armor for his PetPet. It can then be customized with the items.

[edit] Gameplay

As an anthropomorphic petpet from Neopia, the player must find and utilize various items such as swords, staves, wands, magic spells, and armor for the head and body. There is no experience or leveling up to improve the petpet. Instead, tokens have to be won by paying a fee and challenging boss-like critters in the battledome. Once a player has a the correct token for a particular statistic, it then can be used at a trainer. If Ad Hoc multiplayer is used, the entrance fee is removed and the winner still receives the token corresponding to the battledome challenged in.[citation needed]

[edit] Trivia

  • The Havok physics engine is used.[3]
  • The official site has a Flash variation of the game which has no combat. However if this game is completed, a code is rewarded giving a player a chocolate before starting the actual PSP game.
  • There are four nearly identical computer generated introductions to the game, the only difference being the petpet the player chooses.[citation needed]

[edit] Reception

IGN praised the game for its cute protagonists and outdoing typical expectations of a franchise game. However there is criticism of imbalance, such as the difficultly when starting off and the overpowering bows that can be acquired.[4]
