  • Hey there (:O) ... we have an ongoing debate over here on the status of an article. Now the thing I wanted to bring up was the editing and removal and well forceful rhetoric stating the result of the debate before it has even been decided. The one causing all this is User:Ideogram. I have tried so hard to be loving and understanding during this debate, but now I dont know if what the user is doing is right or wrong. I dont know who to go to, so I figure I may ask someone who is very familiar with the wikipedia world and how this should be dealt with maybe? Not sure. Please help. (:O) ---nima baghaei (talk) 03:40, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Ideogram so far seems to be handling the debate just fine. His statements may be more on the blunt side but I believe he is still within WP:CIVIL. Nima, the only thing I find concerning was Lantoka's vote which indicated that you may be possibly canvassing. Deletion debates can turn into heated affairs but its not right to spam talk pages about such affairs. In the end it seems you both are not violating any policies at the moment and are mostly being civil with one another, so I'll leave it at that.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 17:25, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Protection of Wikipedia:Community noticeboard

Hello. I was just wondering why the page is protected, as the levels of vandalism are quite low... usually we try to reserve semi-protection for cases in which the flamethrower doesn't solve the vandalism problem. Titoxd(?!?) 19:20, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Its completely fine to unprotect now. If you look at the history from yesterday. You'll notice that a ban evading user was IP hopping and abusing the various incident boards. He was relentlessly doing so, so I decided to instate protection. By now he has most likely quit.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:25, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
  • All right. Still, I think that would be a case where rangeblocks are a better tool to deal with the problem. An even better tool would have been to leave the thing there, ignore it, and have it be archived by the bot when it ages and no one replies. The ice treatment sometimes works... Titoxd(?!?) 19:26, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Good advice. The ice treatment is definitely workable for me however, being a new admin, I don't think I would be able to handle a range block just yet :P.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:28, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Ice treatment is often okay, except these edits were outright accusing me of anti-Semitism: really not something I want archived into the community noticeboard. The you-don't-get-to-talk treatment seems also to have worked. The only place that user is showing up now is at user talk:rbj, ostensibly to say goodbyes. For what it's worth, I think bbatsell was considering a range block but a glance at category:suspected Wikipedia sockpuppets of Nkras suggested the ranges would have too much collateral damage (much of one of the major ISPs in Minneapolis). coelacan talk — 05:10, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

Sexy New Orange Box.

Here. I decided it was necessary to put one in. After recent discussions with you, and some other users; and after recent events: my talk page needed it. The orange box is impossible to miss. Acalamari 19:29, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi there! Thanks a lot for the response and apologies for my own delayed response. Harassment from an Admin

Hey, i'm having problems from an administrator named User:Kirill_Lokshin. He insists that everything is copyright material and is unsuitable for wikipedia, and he's threatening to ban me if i continue to contribute. This all started with User:Sonysnob at Highway 401. RingtailedFoxTalkStalk 04:40, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

we were editing some same article

and I came to your user page, as I often do with co-editors whom i'm not familiar with, and decided to send you the picture that has been. and is, my desktop for a while. It is a mural by Ezra Winter (I'll do an article some time) in the Public Library in Birmingham, Alabama Enjoy. Requesting unprotection on my user page

Hey, Persian! It's me (Poetic Decay) again. I think I'm ready to unprotect my user page; would you like to do the honors? Oh, and I know this is a bit way off topic, but I saw the vandalism by Fulsome prison/Rugelbein and I just couldn't stop laughing at the fact that he wanted to see pictures of you in lingerie (you should have seen me when he asked the same thing to Luna Santin ;). Don't get me wrong, I'm sure that you're a very beautiful woman (and I'm not just saying that to make you feel good about yourself. I really mean it and you probably already know that you look gorgeous). It's just that I'm surprised someone would be requesting something like that to a person they've never met before. Anyways, you know where to find me if you need me and don't be afraid to email me if you ever just feel like chating (although I doubt you would want to chat with me in your free time). Happy editing! // DecaimientoPoético 02:46, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I would like to invite all those who reviewed "Abbas Kiarostami" during last two months to comment on the article at this "final" stage. The article is now featured article candidate. RFCN

RFCN is supposed to be for names that are potentially in violation, not ones that are unambiguous. From WP:U: "Usernames that imply bot accounts, potentially but not necessarily including "Bot", "Robot", "Script", "Initialize", "Automated", "Daemon", etc., unless the name is intended as a designated bot. Names that imply bot accounts may be blocked, and the user may be requested to contact an administrator to confirm that the account is indeed a bot account." What's the point in forcing a bunch of people to spend time determining whether "Fattabbot" is a violation of policy? -Hit bull, win steak(Moo!) 19:14, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

  • It does not necessarily read as "Fattabbot". Also if you notice it was not just myself who felt this way. Its not really a blatant violation of the policy so I'm avoiding to instate any blocks on it at the moment. Blocks are not meant to be toys so its best that you allow others to discuss it over.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:18, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
  • So what's the other interpretation here? A guy who wanted to register as Fatty Abbot, but was thwarted by an inability to spell? I can't think of a single case where we allowed a non-bot account to have an account name ending in "bot"... it's just not done. -Hit bull, win steak(Moo!) 19:23, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
  • I think you have to stretch it to assume bot out of this. It could be Fatt Abbot, and as stated at the WP:RFCN, it is also the name of a spoof parody on the show South Park. I personally feel that the assumption that it is a bot is a horrible assumption of bad faith. -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 19:38, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Poem infobox

Hey Persian Poet Gal, your name makes you an easy target, so I was wondering what you think about Wikipedia:List of infoboxes/Proposed/Infobox Poetry. I might merely be impatient, but the proposal has been up for 11 days, and no response has been given (even after I left a note on the talk page for WP:POETRY). So any comments that you might have, either on your talk page or on the infobox's, would be uber-valued. (Or if there's anyone else you know about who would be interested and is active, that'd be great too!) GracenotesT § 19:44, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I left some comments on the talk page for you :).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:48, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
Ah, thank you very much. Do you have any suggestions for a color scheme? GracenotesT § 19:54, 26 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Hmmm, I'm not exactly sure still but keep working around with it. I'd go safe and stick with the traditional gray but then it would too much like the average info box. Somehow the turquoise color doesn't seem to be working.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:57, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Shoeless editor

Why was he blocked w/o any edits? Hunted by A.K.G. 23:12, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Note: See my discussion with the user. Prodego talk 23:15, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Unfortunately User:Can'tEatClownsWillSleepWithMe is way too similar to User:Can't sleep, clown will eat me. Registering a name very similar to another username is considered inappropriate because it could easily be confused with said contributor or be considered as an impersonation account; even if the intent was not malicious, (see this part of the WP:U policy). Its considered very uncontroversial to block such names on sight. I had a spoofer once called User:Perpan poe pal. One could argue to assume good faith yet it was also blocked for being an impersonation account due to the similarity in its reading. However, it is very considerate of you to remind how important it is to assume good faith and not be too quick to fire any trigger buttons when dealing with new users. In this case though, I believe it was safer to follow WP:U and block the account for direct impersonation.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 23:42, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
  • Way ahead of you. Also that is the wrong username, it is User:Can'trest,myshoewillgetlostinthewasher :-). Same reason though. Prodego talk 23:54, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

The award didn't work, it was archived. Instead, I am going to see if I can use my image in a userbox. I hope you like it: 1. Oh, and by the way, I just saw your new spoofer! That's two then! Acalamari 00:28, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

  • Hey there Acalamari! Not so sure it will make it as a userbox in Template space. Why not try implementing it in User space. For example you can create the template on User:Acalamari/Awards giver and implement it like a template by typing {{User:Acalamari/Awards giver}}. Lots of user boxes work that way now adays due to many of them not directly relating to Wikipedia. Hope this helps.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 00:32, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Wesley Clark

Hello Persian Poet Gal! You were the most recent administrator at the top of the block log, so I picked you at random as an admin I believed would be logged in now who could deal with this. I am an admin but, as the chief editor to this article there is a conflict of interests. User:Hipocrite has objected to the use of Image:Clark logo.png in the article on Wesley Clark in the FAC. After doing so he has now thrice reverted (at the threshold of the 3RR) to his version of the article with the image deleted, despite having no consensus behind his change. The image is a low resolution copy of a former campaign (falling under "event" and "organization" from {{logo}} for fair use) used only in the campaign section of his article to display that campaign. Barack Obama is a featured article on a modern American political figure in the Democratic party with a 2004 campaign sign used in his article and who is a candidate for president in 2008, effectively an identical situation to the Wesley Clark article and that article uses Image:Barack Obama campaign logo.JPG in exactly the same way the Clark article uses it's sign image. I would ask that you leave a note on the article's and Hipocrite's talk pages, along with possibly the FAC, so he finally stops the reversions. Staxringold talkcontribs 19:47, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I'm looking it over at the moment, I'll get to you in a minute. Sorry to be slow...¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Alright, I looked it over and it does seem like an unproductive revert war over the image. I left a note both on the article talk page as well as Hipocrite's talk page. I'll leave the FAC nom for those involved to discuss over it.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Thank you. Could you take some action/leave an opinion on Hipocrite's current tagging of the image as fair use replaceable which, given that 100% of it's versions are copyrighted, is untrue? Staxringold talkcontribs 20:07, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I left a small note on his talk page but I think in some ways he feels attacked and his opinion is as valid as yours. However, I will say that it is a bit redundant with this particular campaign image.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:16, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Thank you. I intended no offense, I just didn't want his removal of the image to lead to some admin inadvertantly deleting the image as an orphan when there was no consensus behind the removal in the first place. Staxringold talkcontribs 20:17, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Since you've given the article at least some measure of a lookover, any chance of a vote in the FAC? :) I'd understand if you said no to avoid looking involved in any way. Staxringold talkcontribs 20:26, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I wish you all best of luck on your FAC but I must without prejudice decline. Hope this all gets sorted out soon and you all get a winning article on your hands ;).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:30, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Are you watching this discussion? I do not feel my concerns are being even remotely listened to. The number of times I've been told that every other article does the same shit this article does is shocking. I'm going to give up on this intractable edit warrior with no broad experience on the encyclopedia now. Are you going to do anything here? Hipocrite - «Talk» 20:58, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

I noticed you voiced an opinion in the first discussion on a Copyeditor's Barnstar/Award which was archived without decision. If you haven't already, would you please check in with the current discussion? The !votes/opinions from the first discussion, althought noted at the top, are not being counted in the current tally. It would be great if you would also weigh in on your preference of graphic design from among the choices (currently eight different images, the last being added at around 15:23, Thursday, 1 March 2007). If you !vote, please update the tally near the top of the discussion. Thanks. --PigmanTalk to me 22:10, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Tigranes and Orontids articles

User:Davo88, User:Eupator and sometimes others are making radical changes, reverting several pages -- generally with obscure or sometimes no explanation at all. Consider this revert, where Dabo88 removes fully sourced, academic, authoritative and verifiable quotes, and does not even bother to provide an Edit Summary: [1] (I have left extensive comments on that Talk page [2]). He did the same on a different page [3], despite my Edit Summary that has re-iterated the link to Encyclopedia Iranica (more was left on the Talk page itself). • Hello AdilBaguirov. This seems like a rather complex matter and I notice that there already is a arbitration case filed to discuss it. I believe that there is already enough administrators looking over these various issues and the debate is already heated enough. I hope that the case closes smoothly and some resolution is reached soon. Regards,¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 17:52, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Question

Hi. I see that you've commented on User_talk:Curiouscdngeorge before, and since my ANI post isn't getting any love, I was hoping you could provide an independent opinion on my request (at the bottom of the page) for the section in question to be removed. Thanks. Xiner (talk, email) 02:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

Your block of 207.144.220.3

That was my school's shared IP address that you blocked, but thank you nonetheless, I have the frequency and severity of their vandalism, and many, many times I wish I was an admin so I could block them myself (is it okay if I add {{subst:Schoolblock}} to their talk page even though I'm not an admin?).  ~Steptrip 23:39, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Hi, PPG. So, day three of getting round to thanking everyone for their support at my RfA. Great turnout and a humbling level of support. But now, I must honour my word and crack on with the backlog. No doubt we will meet down at the AIV! Thanks again for your confidence. :) Bubba hotep 09:28, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I have a question for you! If I were to test the water with an RfA for myself, what would be the likely outcome? - Penwhale | Blast the Penwhale 11:05, 6 March 2007 (UTC)

Persian Poet Gal

I saw your user name and just had to leave a note. I know of only one other Persian Poet Gal, Susan Atefat-Peckham. I can't image there are many of you about. She was an aquaintance of mine back in college. She wrote That Kind of Sleep (2001), and I give away a copy to every Persian woman I meet. While I can't actually give you a copy, I can at least point you to it.[5] I realize this now reads like spam. Sorry about that. Her book made a big impression on me, and your user name jumped out at me in a very ghostly way. Rklawton 01:41, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I don't see it as spam at all! Looking over the Amazon profile makes it seem very enticing, seeing as it is a poetic work...my favorite kind as you can see :). I'd definitely like to check that one out sometime in the near future.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:45, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
I'm not exactly a peotry fan in general (though I like poetry a lot more than I like opera), but I really like reading about the middle east and Persia, and Susan was able to capture a lot of the flavor. The fact that she wrote it in English and had a good understanding of what Americans would or wouldn't understand really helped. Rklawton 02:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Email

Cheers for the support you gave me on my talk page, I'm going to email you tomorrow anyway (sorry its 02:20 in the UK so I'm going to bed now!), hope your OK, regards Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 02:19, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Talkpage warning removals?

I've had a run-in with MrDarcy (MrDarcy) over reverting warning removals on User talk:Liist. MrDarcy says users have a right to remove warnings as "acknowledgment that they have read them." I80and, JRSpriggs, and I all agree that warnings should stay, or at least be archived to a visible page. What's your take? — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 02:20, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I think I know why he may be blanking the page. It seems that this editor is now indefinitely blocked according to the block log. In such cases I believe it ok to remove the warnings to deny the vandal/troll recognition. If the vandal were still active I would believe it to be very inappropriate to remove the warnings (especially when it is not the user themself) and I would recommend archiving.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:24, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Checking his talk page's history, he is the one who blanked the page in question, which is what I initially reverted. MrDarcy reverted that, twice. (continuing discussion on my talk page) — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 02:29, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Hmmm I see. As I said before, if the vandal were still active I would generally be very concerned if the warnings were blanked. However, since the user was indefinitely blocked, I think that it does not hurt for them to be removed. Remember to not feed trolls attention. Reverting a blanking of their talk page numerous times even when they are indefinitely blocked is unnecessary. I do value your good intentions though. Allow that vandal/troll to stomp along now.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:34, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
  • If I may be of any help here: users must not blank warnings from their talk pages, even if they've been indefinitely blocked. Users who have continually blanked their talk pages have had their talk pages fully protected. Acalamari 02:45, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
I've copied your post to my talk page. Hope that's cool, — Tuvok[T@lk/Improve me] 02:54, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
I think blanking should be allowed in minor Circumstance such as the warning is atleast 6 months old and that the user was never blocked meaning that if the user had been blocked in the last six months he cannot blank his page but if he has recieved warnings for vandalising certain pages but no final ultimatum(only or last warning) then the user may blank the pages but all of these shouldnt apply to IP Addresses but only to logged in users..--Cometstyles 10:38, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the quick vandalism stoppage

I greatly thank you for reverting the vandalism on my main userpage. You were fast and took action before I even hit the undo button myself. MrMacMan 02:45, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Revert.

Finally, I got to do something for you: I reverted vandalism from your userpage and updated your vandal count. Of course, I'm not advocating vandalism to you just so I can get my edit count up. :) Acalamari 18:09, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Speaking of edit counts, because of those two edits I did, you appear here. Acalamari 18:18, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Thanks for reverting the vandalism to my user page. I just had to revert that vandal on his own talk page again. I am monitoring your user page at the moment. Acalamari 19:20, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
  • No problem. If he continues to vandalize I will block. For now, just let the talk page be and revert only to place new warnings for new vandalism. Keep up the good work.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:21, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Trouble is, he's more than four days old: he got through the semi-protection on my user page. Oh well, some vandals are clever enough to last that long. Acalamari 19:24, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

For the talk page revert! Appreciate it :) - Alison 19:51, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

  • No problem!¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:51, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
  •  :) BTW, could I possibly steal appropriate "borrow" your status message code, please? It's cool! I've already got a userbox but would like to ditch that in favour of the icon placement scheme - Alison 20:01, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Sure you may! If you want to have the scheme work with your current status changer then edit the User:Persian Poet Gal/Status portion with your own. If you do not have a status changer page, replace that portion with text of whether you are online or offline. If you want to create a status changer page manually do so by placing the online or offline text on a page called User:Ali-oops/Status or you can follow the directions here to implement an automatic status changer. Feel free to ask me any questions if you are having trouble!¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:11, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks.

Thanks for blocking that user. I'm surprised you've come online now. Anyway, some things have happened while you went away; your userpage was vandalized, I found you a new spoofer, Ryanpostlethwaite and Natalie Erin are administrators, I nominated Alison (who used to be Ali-oops, but she changed her name) for adminship yesterday (well, yesterday my time, and yours I think), and there was an autograph book incident. Hi

Hi Can you tell ,can i put warning of 3RR rules on user page(even if i am not admin). Khalidkhoso 23:23, 19 March 2007 (UTC)

  • All users are allowed to use the {{Uw-3RR}} warning. Just make sure to place it on their talk page appropriately and sign four tildes afterwards.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 17:04, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
thanks but what 2nd guy is me(but i have not made Vilations of 3RR).still i can put warning on page.Khalidkhoso 19:45, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Do you mean if you were involved in the affair? If you made one to two reverts, that should not be too problematic to place the warning. But if the edit war is strictly between you and the other editor then its best if someone else places the warning.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:47, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry for late reply.i was defending artilce i asked you yo see it.Which Language do you speak.i mean family and native language Khalidkhoso 19:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
  • My most fluent language is English, though I can speak some basic Farsi. My family are all native Persians and of course speak excellently. My cousins were born in California like myself however, I'm quite envious of their much better Persian. They can say all kind of things about me right in front of my face without me being able to understand them :P. I never really got the chance to sit down and pick it up as much as I should. Maybe during the summer I'll try and tackle the language a bit better.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 19:15, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Other thing you thought you made mistake by wrongly recognizing Sindhi language script. No, you were correct before Sindhi language script is got from Farsi and Arabic Alphabet. By the way Balouchi language is much like Farsi. I am native balouch speaker.Khalidkhoso 20:16, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Adminship?

Qxz, you are a very dedicated vandal fighter and civil Wikipedian. Your experience with this community seems superb and for a long time I have admired it. Have you ever considered running for adminship? I'm tempted to consider nominating you one of these days but I rather have your approval first :). Keep up the excellent work.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 18:20, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I have considered the possibility of adminship; as you will notice if you look through my talk archives, so have several other people. However, I am not interested. There are a number of reasons for this, but I'll stick with the most obvious for now; I have been here for less than two months (two months as of tomorrow, in fact). One has only to take a quick look at the standards generally applied at RfA to see that one would have to be mad to apply with anything less than three times this amount of experience. Thanks – Qxz 18:26, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Heh, I should have looked through the talk page archives first! Anyways, I appreciate your response. I think though you are definitely an indispensable member of this community. Thank you for all your hard work and service.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 18:29, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Oh. I just noticed you left that template on the talk page. FYI: you really should use it as your block reason, because a lot of people fire off confused/irate emails to unblock-en-l before they even think about reading their IP's talk page. Thanks --  Netsnipe  ►  20:20, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Spoken Wikipedia recordings

Hi. I don't know if you're aware, but the audio level in your seven Spoken Wikipedia recordings are so low as to be borderline inaudible. IceKarma 21:53, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Impersonation by IP editor

Yes, I can confirm that the anonymous IP claiming to be me was an impostor -- thanks for spotting it and letting me know. I'm a bit puzzled by some of the the comments at AN/I, because I can't see any full name given in the diffs previously on that page: I can also confirm that the one E-mail address that I have seen given by the impostor (an exchange.uta.edu address) is definitely completely bogus. I've blocked that IP for a week, as I cannot see any possible good-faith reason for password trolling. -- The Anome 22:47, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I'm glad at least we've caught this guy in his own demise. For your safety, many believed this matter should not be taken lightly so I posted on WP:ANI in order to bring it to the attention of everyone else.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 23:33, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Good block... I was getting pretty close to doing that myself. He seems to think that by asking him to follow the MoS and warning him against adding poorly sourced/unsourced rumors & YouTube links with unclear copyright status that I'm harassing him (as apparently are everyone else who has warned/informed him of good wiki-practices). He needs a cool down here. Several editors are spending an inordinate amount of time cleaning up his contributions here and all they get for their trouble is a bunch of attitude.--Isotope23 15:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Unfortunately, as mean spirited as he claims the block is, it was called for. The warnings placed on his page though stern, approached him in a fair manner asking him to stop. He continued the tomfoolery anyway. Hope those of you busy on cleanup won't get your eyes boggled sorting through all this mass of silly edits 8).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 15:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Help Resolving a conflict

I have read the pages about this on wikipedia and I have came to you because you seem to be a person who knows how wikipedia is supposed to work and are most likely 100% neutral on this matter. I am involved in a rather intense edit war with two other editors of the article Miriam Rivera. In the last days the user User:Jokestress has quite reasonably asked for the article to be backed up with more reliable sources. Well I found them and that seems to have placated her. She has acted in 100% reasonable way in all of this. The problem arises in that she has asked in the spirt of resolving the conflict we were having other people who are not 100% neutral it seems to comment on the matter. These being the user User:Longhair and the userUser:Alison in particular who have not bothered to justify anything that they have done. Longhiar being an admin seems to feel no need to discuss anything and I feel is abusing her powers. Is there anything you can do? --Hfarmer 03:12, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

  • If you read the talk page, all I've asked so far is for you to provide reliable sources for your claims. These must meet WP:BLP as Miriam is still living, and her life has been controversial to-date. It should be noted that I have never once edited the main article, other than voicing my concerns on the talk page. Please feel free to point out where I'm not being neutral in what I've said there. So far I have justified every thing I have said to date. In the interests of disclosure, it should be noted that I am also an admin. Thanks - Alison 03:17, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Status box?

Hey, I was wondering if you can help me with making a status indicator just like what you have. :) - Penwhale | Blast him / Follow his steps 19:13, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I would be glad to help. Hope you don't mind me copying and pasting some of the explanations I have given in the past :P:

The following is the code I use to place my status changer at the top of my page -

<div style="position:absolute; z-index:100; right:20px; top:10px; height:10px; width:300px;"></div><div style="position:absolute; z-index:100; right:10px; top:10px;"><font face="comic sans ms">[[Image:Data-stream.gif|50px]] '''Status:''' {{User:Persian Poet Gal/Status}}</div></font>

The following parameters are optional and you can customize them or remove them -

  • <font> ← the font tags (used to customize the font)
  • [[Image:Data-stream.gif|50px]] ← the data stream image
  • ''' ← the wiki bold tags

If you want to have the scheme work with your current status changer (placing your status configuration at the top of the page) then edit the User:Persian Poet Gal/Status portion with your own: User:Penwhale/Status. If you do not have a status changer page, replace that portion with text of whether you are online or offline. If you want to create a status changer page manually, do so by placing the online or offline text on a page called User:Penwhale/Status or you can follow the directions here to implement an automatic status changer. Feel free to ask me any questions if you are having trouble!

Hope this helps.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:35, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Persian Poet Gal, doesn't the status box generate user space edits every time you update it? If it does, that's why I wouldn't use a status box. I try to do as few edits as possible to user space. I only edited my user page twice today; and I try to edit it as little as possible. Especially in light of recent events; I want to keep user space edits down. Acalamari 20:42, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Yes. Any status indicator does generate user space edits no matter which way you go about it. It is nothing to be penalized about though ;).¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:44, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Even so...I don't want to take the chance. With you being an exception :), if I need the immediate assistance of another user, I just look at their contributions to see if they are doing anything. Acalamari 20:50, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Yup, that's pretty much the best way to figure out whose out-an-about.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 20:51, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I had something in User:Penwhale/Status, can you delete it? I tagged it with {{db-author}}. - Penwhale | Blast him / Follow his steps 20:52, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. - Penwhale | Blast him / Follow his steps 20:59, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Uh-oh

Remember this guy? He's back. Quadzilla99 13:11, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Just to let you know...

...I have created you a page at User:PPG, which redirects to your main userpage, so, if you're using a 'handmade' signature, you can use that to save time.--Vox Humana 8' 15:57, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

  • No need to incorporate it in the signature and I do not really require a redirect but I guess it doesn't hurt too much.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 23:55, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Hi there, Just a quick one to let you know that the above user (i.e. me) is now using his sockpuppet account to make many positive contributions to Wikipedia, such as having started WP:Surrey and the associated Portal:Surrey.--Vox Humana 8' 16:18, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Glad to hear you are contributing productively now. Just try to stay out of heated debates and controversial page moves.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 23:56, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
Will do. Thanks for the unblock those few months back. --Vox Humana 8' 00:35, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Hey someone requested a review of the image I uploaded, I was hoping maybe you or someone else could check on it? I am not sure how this process works to be honest, this is the first time this has occurred for me (:O) -Nima Baghaei (talk) 20:05, 24 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I believe the best place for that is the Wikipedia:Fair use review (which is also noted on the review tag). Follow the instructions on the page and have either you or the other user file it on that page. Hope this helps.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 23:59, 24 March 2007 (UTC)

Is there enough info to do a prefix lock?

This is about the 15th account and frankly, I could be doing something important instead... HalfShadow 00:22, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm working on the request, but since I've never done it before, I'm making sure I'm dotting my 'I's, etcerera. Thanks for the comp. That'll save me a few minues. HalfShadow 00:35, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Them Turok socks

Hi there. Is there anything that can be done to prevent their creation, or is it just a case of reporting each new sock to AIV? I suppose a checkuser could find an IP? Just curious in case I see this again. Cheers, Flyguy649talkcontribs 00:36, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Budding in here, but the Turok person was an IP vandal before creating usernames and you can find the IPs it uses in the history here starting from 11:15, March 24, 2007. oncamera(t) 00:39, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Just keep your eyes pealed for him and post the next sock on AIV stat ;). Unfortunately I'm unaware of any other way of slowing him down at the moment besides semi-protecting the pages he is vandalizing temporarily. Its better to avoid article protection when its just one vandal, but the circumstances are quite extreme at the moment. (edit conflict) I'm on it Oncamera.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 00:40, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I saw some IPs in the histories. The blanking by some of the socks kinda highlights them. BTW, I added {{Sock}} tags to some of the Turok series, and I saw that you did as well. Is it ok that I (as non-admin) do that? Cheers, Flyguy649talkcontribs 00:44, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Yep, as a non-admin its perfectly alright to add the sock tag. I'm looking through the histories and blocked a couple that were not under blocks already for 31 hours. This seems like a dynamic IP. I'm no good when it comes to blocking ranges. I'll see if I can ask around for some assistance.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 00:45, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Turok 19 HalfShadow 00:49, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Already added him. Should we be stating he's a sock of Turok 1 or Turok 19? 19 is where the trouble started; I can't speak for the other...er...Turoks. HalfShadow 00:58, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Good question. I just started with the earliest, but edit in a 9 if you like. I think we've tagged enough of 'em to get the gist of what this guy is up to. Checkuser should be able to do something with those 20+ socks.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:01, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I think Turok 2 was the first account in the Turok series, if that matters. oncamera(t) 01:01, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I added Complete Shadow 2 (talk · contribs) to the checkuser list. Is it worth adding more, or is that enough? Flyguy649talkcontribs 01:11, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

By the way guys, this is the better location to file this report: Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser#Requests for IP check.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:13, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

  • This user Knuckles 008 looks like a Turok sock too - Hdt83 | Talk 01:14, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • [7] I have no idea why he's picking on me. I don't particularily care either; he has no value to me eithr as a living being nor text on a screen, but I won't have it. HalfShadow 01:17, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Aw, it was bothering me as well earlier today; why else is my user and talk pages now protected? Haha, oncamera(t) 01:20, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Another one: Knuckles 009 - Hdt83 | Talk 01:20, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Already got that one too and implemented protection on the pages he is vandalizing. It was just going too far.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:21, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
I have to ask: is this guy some sort of retard or something? HalfShadow 01:28, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Its certainly an unproductive effort but its best not to call vandals names. It just feeds them attention. Just report them, I'll block, and we'll move from there. The vandal will soon get bored with one of the dullest hobbies in the world :P.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 01:30, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

WBJscribe

Wow, you're on the ball! I noticed a couple of spelling mystakes in my RfA and realised that if the account could be created I should create it preemptively and redirect its pages to mine to avoid impersonation. Got blocked before I created the redirects... Very impressed. I'll add the redirects now- no need to unblock. WjBscribe 02:52, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Nice catch

Kudos for catching WBJscribe, it fooled me well enough to do a double-take in the user creation log and ask myself, "wait, why doesn't it say created new account ..." —dgiestc 03:25, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

More Turok stuff

Just curious why we have categories for socks of Turok 1 and Turok 19? And damn this group/individual is persistent!!!! Let me know if you want help merging the categories. Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:31, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

  • I haven't gotten around to recategorizing the ones I originally tagged Turok 1. If you want go ahead and do so but I would recommend just keep on the lookout for the incoming ones.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 05:32, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I'll do that. And thanks for the reversion. It seems I'm one of Turok's friends now. Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:34, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • I'll work on recategorizing all into the Turok 19 list, too. Should take 10 min or so. Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:36, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
I checked the IP WHOIS for the two IPs that were socks (before he started being Turok) and one of them is registered to AOL. I heard that AOL has some kind of proxy server that changes IPs often. So maybe thats why he is able to create so many socks. - Hdt83 | Talk 05:38, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Yep, I was suspecting that...AOL IPs are none-to-pretty. We'll see what Checkuser also turns up.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 05:40, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Ah. An AOL user. Well, that explains a lot... HalfShadow 22:20, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, me again. User:Physicq210 and I have decided to use Turok 1 as the master from now on. Flyguy649talkcontribs 05:48, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

And...done. —210physicq (c) 05:57, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Do you know why Turok is making so many socks? —210physicq (c) 05:59, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
This was what I was wondering. Maybe he thinks its "fun" or something. - Hdt83 | Talk 06:02, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
  • Good question, I haven't any clue...ever see the movie Joe Dirt? He says something like: "Why are rainbows pretty? Why do flowers smell good? They just do."  :P¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 06:03, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Here is a theory (very unlikely): Maybe its a bot that some user created to annoy us? - Hdt83 | Talk 06:04, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Heh, the saying rings true...never count your chickens before they hatch.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 06:10, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
LOL!!!! FYI, I changed the CheckUser request to Turok 1 as well. Flyguy649talkcontribs 06:12, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I have reported Turok 1, as noone should have to have even read the content from the vile trolling and personal attacks this user has used numorous sockpuppets for. Anyone is welcome to comment if this is a good or bad idea. I think whether or not it continues, too much damage was done here, but I applaud you, Persian Poet Gal, for how you handled that.--Wikipedier (talk contribs) 06:21, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

Who is Turok 1 a sock of? It seems strange that he/she was blocked with only 3 edits. —210physicq (c) 06:23, 25 March 2007 (UTC)

I think its this IP User:65.6.62.156 or this user:172.158.31.88. One of them is AOL.- Hdt83 | Talk 06:25, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Turok 1 was blocked before those IPs, though. —210physicq (c) 06:27, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
I have a sneaking suspicion that Turok, his socks, and the IPs are not at all fairly new users. Most likely a reincarnation of a past blocked vandalizer. Most admins like yourself and myself are aware of his accounts by now so his next socks should be pretty easy to detect.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 06:29, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, considering that his socks quack so loudly... —210physicq (c) 06:30, 25 March 2007 (UTC)
