I left this user another message, if he doesn't respond to either of us this time, I am going back to ANI. He seems to want to help but the way he is editing is causing a lot of disruption among the articles. --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 16:32, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

- Unfortunatly I already left a message there but no admin has gotten back to me. The user was already blocked once for the mass uploading of images under this name(and twice under tsl), but doesn't seem to wanna listen. We don't need massive amounts of screenshots especially since they are cracking down on FU images. I've been trying to monitor their edits but it gets out of hand when there are 30 edits to one article in a row. We've been leaving tips, maybe take a guess and leave a note in Noway-ish(ok i have no clue what language they speak in Norway but you get the picture) and see if they respond to that instead of an english warning. If the user does speak Norway-ish, then maybe refer them to the Norway wiki this way they can collaborate with other editors who speak their language. --Malevious Userpage •Talk Page• Contributions 00:23, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

"Keep - Don't ever remove referenced material from WP, it's what we need more of, not less." It was completely unreferenced when I listed it for deletion so your point is sort of moot... Yonatan (contribs/talk) 12:44, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Ultimate X-Men (story arcs)
User:J Greb has already provided a response to the peer review, so that's a good start. I previously submitted a peer review through WikiProject:Biography, and all it received was an automated review. I was thinking about inviting some of the folks who participated in the 2nd AfD to check out the article and give additional suggestions at the review. Speaking of the 2nd AfD, I had forgotten what the article looked like at that time until I checked out your diff. Wowzers, what a difference! You've done a great job, and hopefully we can keep pushing this toward an "A"! - fmmarianicolon | Talk 04:40, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- I applied one of J Greb's suggestions already and sent requests to the participants of the 1st and 2nd AfD to review us again. Two of those participants have already reviewed us, while a 3rd left a note my talk page declining the request. Unfortunately, my bed's calling my name so I won't be able to do much more tonight. Hopefully I can pick back up tomorrow! - fmmarianicolon | Talk 08:29, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Third Watch
I keep removing the picture for Welcome to Camelot as im trying to make all the articles alike. As you might have seen i have fixed up this page (List of Third Watch episodes) to make it neater and i have made a number of articles for the episodes. Anyway, I know there is a picture for that episode but i don't think it's needed. ----Belevsquad 08:14, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah images are cool on all the pages if they can be found somewhere and if they're good quality so if you want to you can search for some and so will I because i like editing anything about Third Watch because it was a great show and that's why i made pages for episodes. ----Belevsquad 10:24, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Frank Grimes
I find it odd that you removed an external comparison to a football player as trivia and instead focused on Grimes' in-universe relation to Homer, which is emphasized by the rest of the article. I know cultural references are generally frowned upon, but I think sometimes they do help enforce the notability of the subject, although less so when it is an opinion piece. –Pomte 06:56, 18 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] List of Just Shoot Me! Episodes
Hey Peregrine, I read what you said, and understand what you're saying. I was wondering if I could put the episode summaries back on if we put a note or refference down the bottom saying that the summaries are from TV.com? Thanks, Mrx9898 22:59, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] A misinterpretation of consensus, perhaps?
The consensus was, I believe, to redirect to List of D&D modules. Creating the new article is all fine and dandy I suppose, and I'm not gonna start complaining, but just thought I'd put in my two cents. Do you have any experience in this field? Because I'm really the only active DL author here, and I have no experience in the modules, so this is kind of making headaches for me. DoomsDay349 01:47, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- Good [Applicable Deity] knows I can agree with that. The sort of headache is causes me is having to deal with a page I cannot improve (and please don't take this as braggadocios) which means it probably won't get improved if it's DL related, cause trust me, no one else on Wikipedia has both the dedication and the resources to improve the subject. So basically it'll be a thorn in my side until I get these modules (one day, one day). But I guess I can deal with this for now, unless you have another plan. DoomsDay349 02:49, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
- I see your points, yes, and I am being bold with a good deal of stuff. I made a list of propositions at the DL WikiProject...and considering how few responses I got, I take that as a heads up to run with it. So basically I'm running Dragonlance right now. There's a guy who spell checks and does some images, and there's another dude who was a big forefronter of DL but has dropped out for admin tasks (great guy, ReyBrujo, you may have heard of him), but for the most part DL is being covered by me, myself, and I. There's a good deal of articles, and I'm trying to fix them as best as possible. DoomsDay349 03:25, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Myself and others have been mostly using the loglines from the SFC Press Kits intended for media use. I had assumed this was acceptable under fair use? --John T. Folden 07:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for the tip off
I've responded accordingly. You can view my changes across the various pages. I'm beginning to see this as a borderline personal attack (from Waza, not you), but since he hasn't acted again I'm letting it go. If he pushes again, though, I'll respond in turn. DoomsDay349 22:44, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think nothing of the sort. My intention was merely to present a uniform format and get the information down before moving it. It's just more logical to the way my mind works. I've every intent of working this out. I don't have a problem with expanding upon the subject in the new article, but it came across to me as though it was an attempt to defeat my edits. I will continue to discuss this and work on the master list, as well as helping to write the new list. You'll understand, of course, my feelings that I was being undermined, though I suppose it's possible I may have given that impression to others, and for that, I am sorry. Finally, I must ask, which edit are you referring to? I'm unsure of exactly which. Thank you for helping me with this, and for helping to jumpstart a great project from a simple AFD. DoomsDay349 23:01, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
- Ah, never mind, I see what you're talking about, and I agree after reviewing it. I must confess that perhaps my vision on this particular matter was marginally clouded. Thanks for pointing this out, and I'm more than willing to work on this so long as work gets done. That's the reason I started my whole movement with this, I was sick of Dragonlance being so stagnant. I just don't want this to be the sort of thing where I have to wait days or weeks for changes to be made. DoomsDay349 23:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned fair use image (Image:Ajnabee_film_poster.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Ajnabee_film_poster.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 19:06, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for the heads up on my talk page about the deletion of FU images without rationales from List of The Wire episodes. I'm just going to look at this as greater incentive for adding the FU rationales for the images where required.--Opark 77 22:41, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

- I've also stumbled across Ed's approach to this issue before on the lost episode list and in some other forums. I enjoy working on content far more than the brief touches I've had with working on policy so I've tended to stay out of it. Now it's on an article I'm heavily involved with I guess I have to be involved in the policy discussion too!--Opark 77 23:17, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ow!
Regarding this edit, please take a minute to investigate some... No non-free image has stood on the main page for some time now. The defacto behavior has been to keep them off the main page for a while. Although we disagree on some things, I am not your enemy. I hope you can understand how placing non-free content on our main page totally detracts from our mission. Perhaps I could reconsider my position on non-free image galleries on list articles if you'll reconsider your position there? ... Were I not a person interest in compromise I wouldn't have ever supported any non-free media on Wikipedia. Thanks for your consideration.--Gmaxwell 04:36, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] About the Illustrations on the D&D creatures
This is Fastzander, the guy you recently sent the message to about URL images of the D&D creatures. I know where to get the images, but the problem I have is writing out all the copyright stuff, and uploading them, and things like that. Or, do I instead of actually loading them onto wikipedia, do I just put links to where the pictures are on other sites, cause in that case, I can do it easily.--Fastzander 03:32, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Dick Tracy Villain debuts
Hi, I've noticed you've made some edits to the article, but I'm not sure they've improved in style-wise. References are fine, but I think the page isn't as clear as it could be. Do you know if the various runs of the villains/storylines were titled in any way? If so, it might be worthwhile reworking the page from that discussion. And I just noticed that List of recurring characters in Dick Tracy contains the same information in very similar form. Not sure how the AfD is going to go, but if nothing else, that page could use some improvement. FrozenPurpleCube 05:59, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't know much about Dick Tracy either, but yeah, I do think at the least replacing that section on the page with a link to the other article would be a better idea as well. Ah well, like most articles on Wikipedia, they need their share of work done. FrozenPurpleCube 06:24, 29 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Superman example
I don't personally care whether the fair use policy applies to Main Page or portals, but I just wanted to tell you that I find your example of Superman odd because there are indeed images of him in the public domain. The image on the right is in the public domain (except for countries such as Canada, Germany, Switzerland, etc.) because it was published in the United States between 1923 and 1963 with a copyright notice, and its copyright was not renewed. It is also used on WP:US-TOON. Regards, Tuxide 07:15, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Bones Episodes
Maybe if you could do all the technical stuff, like writing the infoboxes, table of contents, creating the article, etc., and I could just write the article. And maybe just doing the articles for season 2 for now would be best, considering that they are the most recent and notable. Thanks for offering, I think it might of good use for us to work together! [edit] John Doe
Even if we were the ones who added them in the first place? Schrei 01:48, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I realized that once I looked at the copyright information from TV.com. I apologize for the misunderstanding, and yeah, that's what I was getting at; a year or two ago, I concluded that I could add information to both Wikipedia and Memory Alpha, but in the case of TV.com, it's a bit harder to simply say "okay, it's in the public domain, everyone can have it". Schrei 02:20, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The distinction between free and unfree
In the recent discussion on Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#Use of international wheelchair symbol, you asked "Has anything besides Free and FU been discussed before?" The answer is yes. Template:Mozilla is another highly controversial subject, or at least it would be if more people knew about it. This discussion is about the use of Mozilla logos (specifically, the Firefox logo) for the Mozilla-sanctioned purpose of promoting that product (Firefox). The Mozilla foundation is A-OK with using these logos in userboxes, but the letter of the fair use policy prohibits this.
I relaxed the wording on the template to allow use in userboxes, but now I'm not sure that that was a good idea. Since userboxes don't directly contribute to the encyclopedia, and especially because of the board's unfree content resolution, I'd be OK with it if we changed this template back to the more restrictive wording.
Aside from that, thank you for your comments in the International Symbol of Access discussion. At least in the case of the ISA, the benefit to the encyclopedia from using its use is clear. —Remember the dot (talk) 02:52, 2 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fictional Character Succession boxes
I'm close to proposing a compromise on this so that everyone can be happy and go on with their lives. I think the discussion has actually been really constructive. It is not my intention to disrupt wikipedia. You asked me to put the boxes back. Assuming the rule is altered, that is my intention.--Dr who1975 17:14, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] List of omnipotent fictional characters
The reason I deleted the list was because I concluded that the discussion suggested deletion of the article. AFD is not a vote, but rather a discussion. As the closing admin, I felt that the discussion resulted in the deletion of the article. Simple as that. If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 07:03, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
- You mentioned that the people who wanted the list deleted did so based on what they felt the word omnipotent means. And that is what's the problem with this article. If it's too subjective or possibly undefinable, it fails WP:OR, and therefore cannot stand as an article in Wikipedia. See also Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Comics#Omnipotence: If there is room for judgment in trying to make a list that accurately fits the title, it's too subjective for encyclopedic entry.
- Also, the list is arbitrary, and contradicts that Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. As one person said in the discussion: I doubt there would be much debate about an AfD for "List of Strong Fictional Characters" or "List of Generous Fictional Characters" regardless of the quality of citation.
- The fact of the matter is that the AfD discussion provided multiple points (too arbitrary, fails WP:OR, WP:NOT, etc.) which stated that the list should be deleted, while the only reason to keep the article was that the article was referenced. Also, it should be noted that the amount of people who wanted the article deleted outnumbered those who wanted the article kept by about 2:1. That also played a role in the eventual deletion, despite the fact that it is not a vote. I hope I have answered your question. But, as always, there is an appeal process, and you are free to pursue that route. It is available at Wikipedia:Deletion review. Good luck, and have a great day! If you have any questions, please contact me at my talk page. Ian Manka 07:25, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Replacing the Hit 'Em Up sample
When you replace a link to a song, as you did on Tupac Shakur, please make sure to mark the obsolete song as orphaned. For future reference, you can upload a file on the same page, keeping past revisions in place. You could have then changed the fair use tag to your liking. So please, for next time, make sure to note the file you're deleting is no longer used. Thanks and happy editing, Mysekurity 21:03, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- How do mark a .ogg file as orphaned? I have to do it to a couple of files, but I'm not sure how. Thanks. - Peregrine Fisher 21:05, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- As I said, the best practice is to upload a new version to the same page, that way, previous revisions can be reviewed or deleted as needed, without burying the alternate version (would you like me to delete my version, or will you upload your version to ?). That said, if a file is truly orphaned, check out WP:O for what to do. -Mysekurity 21:11, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- I guess I'd like you to delete yours. I think my name is a little better since it includes the artist. Someone may cover it, and then there might be two. Thanks for the link, I'll figure it out. The reason I made a second one is I added it to the song's page, and didn't realize there was one on the artist page until afterwards. - Peregrine Fisher 21:16, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Forgive me for suggesting it, but I would prefer you upload your version (so as to credit you) over mine, and I will delete the duplicate page. The file name I chose is shorter, and in an attempt to "keep it simple", I believe it is best to leave it at that. In the unlikely event that someone should cover the song (it is about a feud in which most of the targets have retired), that can be uploaded under a different name, as is done with articles. So if you wouldn't mind, I'd appreciate it. Thanks and happy editing, Mysekurity 23:20, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- Thank you, I appreciate it. One of the great benefits of wiki technology is the history and logs, but these are easily sidestepped by creating another page, and abandoning the current one. This happens with articles and images constantly, and it's fairly upsetting that there is no "move" or "rename" button for uploaded files. Thanks again, Mysekurity 23:32, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Remove images from lists?
What do mean remove images?? The images are there to identify the episodes in question, and removing them only makes the list less informative: It becomes more difficult to identify an episode, because you can only rely on the summaries and those that aren't familiar with the show will have hard time figuring out what's being said in the episode summaries. So I think we should not have to remove the images from Featured List. I mean other people agree there should be images in the episode lists, that's why they voted for them to become Featured Lists.Gman124 00:07, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nonplussed
I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Nonplussed, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. [edit] Orphaned fair use images (Image:Farscape season 2 episode 5.jpg, Image:Farscape season 2 episode 1.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Farscape season 2 episode 5.jpg.
Thank you. feydey 11:42, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
