[edit] Meaning of the name

- what does Perlis and Indera Kayangan Mean?

Perlis is the name of the state. The words Indera Kayangan are never used nowadays. Don't know what they mean.

- There has to be a meaning. Other states have meanings. - Previously text on wikipedia stated "In 1842 Britain put pressure on Siam to restore the Sultan. This was done, but Perlis and Setul were separated. Perlis was given to Syed Sapee, an Arab merchant. His descendants still rule Perlis, as rajas, instead of as sultans." Seems it has changed and someone else's name not Syed Sapee has been put in there. Why the change to text?

- What does PS mean after the word Perlis? Cavingliz 07:38, 15 August 2006 (UTC)

Perlis Darul Sunnah? I thought the name was Perlis Indera Kayangan? What does Darul Sunnah mean: The Abode of.....?

It was an act of vandalism. I've restored the pre-vandalized version. __earth (Talk) 08:41, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

I just looked it up in adictionary... Kayangan means bliss so I guess it means Abode of Bliss or Blissful Abode ?

[edit] Darul Sunnah

Yeh, guess they change the name to Darul Sunnah (googled the net), though it doesn't make any sense to change a perfectly good name indera kayangan to Darul Sunnah just to reflect the Islamicity (if you have such term anyway) of whatever Shahidan Kassim wants to show comes election time. Though I wonder if it's gazetted under the State Constitution, in case if it's not, then it'd most probably be just a fad. And what the heck does Darul Sunnah means? Abode of those that are Sunni Muslim? Abode of those that follow Prophet Muhammad's (p.b.u.h) sunnah? Please enlightened me. Just my 2 cents worth anyway.

So it's official then? No longer is Perlis known as Indera Kayangan, but Darul Sunnah? I wonder who made the changes. I guess they wanted to add the Darul to Perlis like most of the other states. I'm surprised Melaka isn't a Darul too. EJRS 08:28, 2 January 2007 (UTC)ejrs

Perlis Darul Sunnah is not official yet, so now Perlis Indera Kayangan is still used. Apparently Indera Kayangan conveys the meaning of hindu god (Indera)on its throne (Kayangan). Oh well. I don't agree with the change of name. Indera Kayangan can be interpret in general terms to refer to the abode of heavens. sigh. Zack2007 13:50, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What is the difference between Sultan and Raja?

This entry implies a difference between a Sultan and Raja, beyond an implicit Muslim (or Arabic) vs Hindu usage. It would be handy for the distinction to be visible somewhere.

I was going to turn those words in the text into links, but the Wikipedia page for Raja doesn't explain the difference either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jlhollin (talkcontribs) 14:14, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
