Even after finding a history of squirrel fishing, I was mostly expecting cleanup tags and possibly the detritus of an old AfD when I looked up this matter - not coverage of the surprising significance of technical taps in space exploration. I love this place. --Kizor 11:27, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] This page kicks ass.

That is all. Miserlou 04:16, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Precussion?

Is it 'precussion therapy' or 'percussion therapy' ? www.m-w.com doesn't have an entry for precussion but there are lots of hits in google - many of which look to be typos of 'percussion'.

Elronxenu 14:24, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Typo, definitely. I've fixed it. --Mark H Wilkinson (t, c) 14:53, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Is Han Solo that good that....

...his bit from the Star Wars movie is repeated twice, the second time right after the first? --Drmike 18:36, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

No, only Malcolm Reynolds would be and he doesn't handle the technical side. That seems to be a well-meaning but careless addition made the day before yesterday. Thanks for pointing it out, I'll fix it. --Kizor 13:19, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks --Drmike 16:41, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Mac? (Commodore 64? Apple III?)

I'm not sure about the model, and it was a while ago, but wasn't there a Mac that you had to pick up and drop back down to reset some components that warped because of heat? Should that be added here? soldierx40k 02:51, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I would like to see this added... provided you can find some references! Its actually rather funny, but all things aside if its true its an excellent example. Hayaku 08:58, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Wow. That brings back memories. The was a Commodore Service bulletin that suggested dropping a C64 with socketed chips to revive it. I think it reseated the 6502 processor. I'll look for a reference. 'bitchen' ric (talk) 19:09, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmmm, here's a reference to doing the drop with an Apple III

Much harder to spot is the rather fragile and delicate Apple III. When it was first introduced, the new system seemed not to work well unless you read an Apple service bulletin advising you to pick the unit up and drop it from a height of several inches to help reseat its memory chips. [[1]]

[edit] iPod earphones

A lot of earphones (especially white apple ones Ive found) start to blow out the bass after a while. Tapping them hard and/or blowing into them fixes this. Add? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.240.120.8 (talk) 09:43, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Secret Drawer on Sanford & Son

I'm not confident enough that this qualifies as a Technical Tap. Fred Sanford kept his valuables in a drawer that took two hits and a slap to open. On one episode (forgive me, this was 20+ years ago) Fred had a ladyfriend open it with one good slap. Please add if this counts. Thanks! 'bitchen' ric (talk) 19:07, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Percussive maintenance = moving stuff in a game?

I feel the need to question the Devil May Cry entry under "Famous Taps from Fiction". Moving stuff isn't fixing stuff. I reckon that entry ought to be removed. I figured it's rude to just remove it, so I put it to discussion here. If the author of that entry wishes to support it's continued inclusion, I'd like to hear why.Felonius maximus (talk) 11:42, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your consideration. Not possessing any myself, I removed that entry - it was simply unrelated. The author is free to say otherwise, but likely it was just a casual user's drive-by. A lot of articles accrue varyingly related fiction examples over time, those being the breaks of having a wiki. Some people favor the slash-and-burn approach with such articles, but the extra can usually be kept well in check with some oversight. --Kizor 12:23, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

Technical tapPercussive maintenance I propose the article be moved to "percussive maintenance" leaving a redirect from "technical tap". I've never heard the latter term, I'm fairly certain the former is used more often. Google provides about 23000 hits for percussive maintenance, only 1700 for technical tap. xenocidic (talk) 19:01, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
