Portal talk:Personal life

There was no explaination of the problem with this page. Was the talk page lost in a move or something? I am removing the tag for now because it is near our front door. -- Fplay 00:56, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
I am not sure why this talk page is suspiciously missing, but i suspect it contained one of the same issues a few of us have raised on talk:personal life - namely, that "career" is a very very poor choice of word to define "personal life". if you ask 100 people on the street what their career is, i would wager that all 100 would talk about things like what kind of work they do, their string of employment, how much money they make, & things like that - none of them would talk about their lover, their hobbies, their recreational activities - the things at the heart of Personal Life. The sense of "career" being used to define the manifestly important personal life article & portal is obscure, & the word itself is in modern usage used to mean something very different from, almost contrary to Personal Life (which i just fleshed out a bit with the 100 people thought experiment). I do not think a public encyclopedia is the place to use obscure, counterintuitive definitions of common words like "career" to define manifestly important things like Personal Life. I am totally opposed to using "career" to define "personal life". Hopefully others will agree. IF you disagree - please bring to my attention several examples of this usage of "career" in modern texts. I expect prominent examples, like People magazine, or The New York Times. in closing, i repeat: this is a very nonstandard usage of the word "career", used to define a very important article & portal (personal life). i am in total disagreement with the usage. lakitu 09:15, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Career
Linking experience of life to career is a bit strange. Doesn't sound right to me, as life is much more encompassing that what you do to earn money. I should also point out that very rich people who inherited their wealth may not have a career at all, although they obviously still have an experience of life (and quite a lot of it, I'd say).
