Perth Central Area Transit

The Perth Central Area Transit System (Perth CAT), or simply CAT, is a set of three bus routes in the centre of Perth, a bus route in Fremantle, and a bus route in Joondalup. Unlike all other Transperth services, all CAT routes are zero-fare.

[edit] Bus fleets

The current Perth CAT bus fleet consists of 23 Volgren bodied Mercedes-Benz OC500LE units that are fuelled by compressed natural gas. In addition to the designated fleet, several "silver-and-green" buses of the same type are used as spares.

The Fremantle CAT fleet consists of 3 Mercedes-Benz O405NH units and the Joondalup CAT fleet consists of 2 Dennis Dart SLF units.

The current fleet of natural gas-powered buses was progressively introduced from August 20, 2005, and replaced sixteen Scania-DAB MidCity Series II 0860S.

The cat buses were replaced by the original City Clipper Which ran thew the original sections of Perth

There are three CAT routes: the Yellow CAT, the Red CAT and the Blue CAT, which was replaced the City Clipper bus services on 23 September 1996; these CAT services are operated by Southern Coast Transit.

The Blue CAT is between Perth and Northbridge areas, including Barrack Street Jetty and Esplanade Busport. Blue CAT runs as bus route number 1. Blue CAT has 22 stops including:

The Joondalup CAT started operation on January 9, 2006, and is operated by Path Transit. It will run as bus routes 10 (anti-clockwise) and 11 (clockwise). It travels around Joondalup, and will stop at:

[edit] Future expansion

There will be a Rockingham Shuttle, with its own right of way being constructed. This may be turned into light rail or a CAT route.

The Rockingham City Centre Shuttle will be started operation on December 23, 2007, and is operated by Southern Coast Transit. It will run as bus routes 555. It travels around Rockingham City, and will stop at:
