[edit] History

The name originates from perenica and a brook. The name is of Slavic origin. The Celts arrived before the Slavs.

The name was first mentioned in 1165 in the Falkensteiner Codex. In 1679, the plague affected Pernitz and four years later in1683, the Second Turkish Siege happened.

In 1828, a road was built to the near Triestingtal. The Piestingtalbahn was built in 1877. Pernitz received water in 1904 and later, electricity in 1908.

It became a market town in 1961.

The local football club is called Sc Ortmann, taking its name from the nearby toilet paper and tissue factory.
