Perleidus is an extinct genus of ray-finned fish from the Triassic period. It was about 15 cm (6 in) long.
Similar to some of its ancestors, the Palaeonisciformes (such as Canobius and Platysomus), Perleidus's jaws were vertically 'hung' under the brain case, allowing them to open wider. A new trait in Perleidus (and its relatives) was the increased flexibility of its dorsal and anal fins, caused by a reduction of fin rays. This increased the creature's agility.
