Coordinates: Periyakulam is a Town and a Municipality in Theni district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Periyakulam is located at [1] It has an average elevation of 282 metres (925 feet). It is located at the foothills of the Western Ghats bodering the neighbouring state of Kerala. It is one of the most fertile places in the state of Tamilnadu. Theni district act's as the headquarters of this town. Agriculture stands as the primary occupation for the population here. It is also known as the "Mango City", as a major supply of mangoes from this city goes into Tamilnadu's mango output. It stands on the bank of the Varaha (Maha Vishnu's Boar incarnation) river. It is a fertile area that has an annual supply of surplus rainfall. The taluks that come inside areT.Kallipatti, Vadugapatti and Melmangalam, villages that also stand on the banks of the Varaha River.This city also called as 'Kulanthai Managaram'.

As of 2001 India census,[2] Periyakulam had a population of 42,039. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Periyakulam has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 82%, and female literacy is 69%. In Periyakulam, 10% of the population is under 6 years of age.
Periyakulam(PKM) is located in the foot hills of Kodai-kanal hills. It has more than 100 years of municipal history. it's one of the oldest municipals in Tamil-Nadu. Periyakulam is also known as ‘Mango City’ as it’s famous for its sweet mangos. Also PKM is known for its sweetest water.It has nice weather through the year. Periyakulam itself has so many tourist parts; also around PKM you can find ‘n’ number of tourist locations.To name few Sothuparai dam(9 km), Kumbakarai falls(8 km), Theertha thotti (2km), Vaigai Dam (15 km), Manjalar dam (18 km), Thekkadi,Surulithirrtham, Moonar and many more.
The Horticultural College & Research Institute (HC & RI), one of the constituent colleges of Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, is located at Periyakulam.
Periyakulam is parliamentary & Assembly Periyakulam Constituency. Electorate:Out of a total electorate of 10,47,905 there are 5,38,291 men who exceed the 5,09,614 women
