The spider family Periegopidae consists of only one genus, with two species. It was set apart from the Archaeidae in 1995 by R. R. Forster.

As a member of the Haplogynae, Periegops has only six eyes, unlike most spiders, which have eight. Adult P. suteri are about 8mm long.
