Per Enflo, born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1944, is a university professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Kent State University, Ohio, USA. Enflo's mathematical contributions fall mainly within the area of functional analysis, where he solved three fundamental problems — the basis problem, the approximation problem and a version of the invariant subspace problem for Banach spaces[1]— which had been open for more than 40 years. He has earlier held positions at the University of California, Berkeley, Stanford University, Ecole Polytechnique, (Paris) and The Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm.
