[edit] History

In 1971, The Peoples Church, Toronto, Canada under the leadership of Paul B. Smith, Senior Pastor, established an educational ministry known as The Peoples Christian Schools. Under this umbrella, two divisions became known as The Oswald J. Smith Elementary School (OJSES) and The Paul B. Smith Academy (PBSA) (the High School). Oswald J. Smith (Nov 8, 1889 – Jan 25, 1986) is a world renowned author, poet, hymn writer, preacher, editor but most notably a missionary statesman. He founded The Peoples Church in 1928 and is well beloved for his passion for souls and his dependence upon God. The official biography of Dr. Oswald J. Smith is “Fire in His Bones” by Lois Neely. Paul B. Smith was the son of Oswald J. Smith, and Senior Pastor of The Peoples Church from 1959 – 1994. In 1995, the two divisions of The Peoples Christian Schools were integrated as Peoples Christian Academy (PCA) under the umbrella of Peoples Ministries Inc. (PMI). PMI consists of The Peoples Church, Global Outreach, Living Truth and Peoples Christian Academy.

PCA is housed in the facility of The Peoples Church. The Elementary division, at the west side of the complex, contains classrooms, a gymnasium and a computer lab. At the east side of the building is the High School wing. The High School has a large gym, classrooms, a music room, science lab, art room, and 2 modern computer laboratories. Parking is available for senior students.

[edit] Auditorium

The two wings are separated by The Peoples Church facilities which include offices, as well as an 1800 seat auditorium. This well-equipped auditorium is used by the school for Chapel services, music classes, major concerts, and drama productions. Its also has its high school and elementary chapel there.

[edit] Separation

October 2007 ushered in news of the Peoples Church's decision to sever all ties with the Peoples Christian Academy. In a letter to the church, Brian Relph, wrote that television equipment was currently being housed off site because of the presence of the school. The letter went on to say that as of the end of the current school year, the school would have to either fold or find a new home.

The Board of Directors of Peoples Ministries Inc. (PMI) has given notice to Peoples Christian Academy (PCA) that as of this current school year, ending June 2008 (date amended - see below), PCA will no longer be housed at 374 Sheppard Avenue East. In addition, the Board of Directors of PMI has also made a decision that as of the current school year, ending June 2008, PCA will no longer be under the ownership and direction of Peoples Ministries Inc.

The PMI Board of Directors met during the week of October 10 to discuss the feedback from PCA parents, PCA students, PCA staff, PCA Alumni and other PCA stakeholders since the above decision was communicated and has developed a response. During this meeting, it became evident that Brian Relph and the board of PMI were lying. This brought great shame and disgrace to the once famous Peoples Church. In light of the lies that PMI was telling, the school decided that it would be best to distance itself from PMI. The following decision has been made regarding Peoples Christian Academy: The PMI Board of Directors has extended the timeframe for relocation. This will allow PCA to remain at its current location at 374 Sheppard Ave until July 2009, if necessary. This extends the relocation deadline by one full school year. The incorporation of PCA will continue with the current deadline of August 2008. The new corporation and its Board of Directors will have ongoing responsibility for PCA. The separation of the school is part of a larger process of firing people. This year alone, Reg Andrews and Annette Coopper have been fired making room for friends of the board members to find more comfortable jobs.

A meeting was called to address this decision. The meeting surfaced a host of inconsistencies. The most startling inconsistency occurred when Brian Relph, the chairman of the board for the Peoples Church stated that the decision was only following through on a decision that was made by a previous board. Who should approach the microphone? The previous chairman of the board Bill Whyte who revealed that his board never made such a decision. Therefore the decision must have been entirely the current boards'. At this point all credibility for the Peoples Church and its board was lost and it became clear that there was an agenda of deception driving this decision.

Further investigation has revealed that the Peoples Church has sold right of first and second refusal for the sale of the current property once again proving that you cannot serve both God and money. The Peoples Church property has been assessed at over $35 million. In recent years, the price of the property has gone up due to its prime location on the newly built Sheppard subway line, as well as the continued redevelopment of the Willowdale area.

Neither Mr. Broomer nor Mr. Mansell were rehired by the CEO (Mr. Fearon) of the Peoples Christian Academy. Mr. Smith was not rehired. As of the last week of May, no teachers have been rehired either.

Mr. Broomer has been working in PCA for eight years as elementary principal and high school principal. He is a very professional, knowledgeable, respectful and godly man. Students and parents love him and affirm his contribution in PCA. He is the soul of PCA. It is really a loss to PCA for his leaving.

The reason why Mr. Broomer was not hired by the PCA board was because he denied the false accusation of lobbying the CEO position. He has applied the CEO position but later on withdrawn the application. The CEO (Mr. Fear-on-losing-his-job) made a subjective recommendation to the PCA board (only has 4 members assigned by PMI) to not hiring Mr. Broomer as the high school principal after he interviewed Mr. Broomer.

During the CEO and parents meeting, Mr. Fear and the PCA board members also accused Mr. Broomer committing a moral sin (denying the false accusation?!) and did not repent. Mr. Fear never disclosed what had happened. It is very obvious that Mr. Fear has prejudice on Mr. Broomer because he had applied the CEO position.

It is really out of spin in PCA now because Mr.Fear has so much power that he is the God of PCA.

The posting above is personal opinion. It is regretful to see personal attack.

The hiring process at PCA Inc. has been recommended by an independent human resources consultant. The process has been explained to all the potential employees of PCA Inc. (current employees of PCA). The hiring process is still taking place but unfortunately someone intentionally leaks information that is supposed to be in confidence.

However the interviews with elementary school teachers were not independent. The teachers were interviewed by the new principal and a parent and sometimes even the accountant!

Mrs. Okagwu is going to be the high school's principal.

On June 3, there is still no official announcement from Mr. Fearon. Many parents are concerned about the uncertainty and instability of PCA. They said that Mr. Fearon has failed their expectation for a smooth transition.

As of June 3, elementary staff has been interviewed and hired. High school staff is being interviewed this week (week of June 3 - 6).
