- Peter Doherty, medical researcher and Nobel Prize winner
- Sir Charles Kingsford Smith, pioneer aviator, who, with his crew, made the first flight across the Pacific in his aircraft, the "Southern Cross", from San Francisco, California, USA to Brisbane, Queensland, Australia in 1928. The aircraft is currently preserved and on display, in a special glass 'memorial hangar', near the International terminal at Brisbane Airport
- Emma Miller, pioneer labour activist and suffragist
