This is an example of how <ref> tags don't work[1] inside templates.
Here's a Thingy[2] with its <ref> tag within a template..
This reference[3] works, but the one in the template (above) doesn't.

- note that #3 is missing here. It is defined in the template {{User:Pengo/mytemplatewitharef}}

- http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Cite/Cite.php#Current_issues (Using <ref> within a template will create correctly numbered reference mark but it will be missing from the output of a <reference /> on the calling page.
