[edit] Westernmost in England

This seems to be more controversial than I'd expected, so here's an explanation of why I think that Penzance is the westernmost railway station in England. My understanding is that England does not include any part of Scotland or Wales. Thus, the fact that there are stations in Scotland further west that Penzance does not stop Penzance being the westernmost station in England, any more than there being stations in France prevents its being the southermost. --bjh21 15:46, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

IMO, when I think England, for some reason I automatically think Scotland too - so IMO it should be southernmost only. Tubechallenger 13:19, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't think we should remove facts merely because they're confusing to people who don't understand British geography. I've added a clause which attempts to clarify the issue without being horribly patronising. --bjh21 17:03, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

That was a perfect way to clear it up, but only Arisaig is further west than Penzance according to my RailAtlas. Tubechallenger 22:52, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

I think the currect edit is fine. According to the [Heavens Above] web site Penzance is 5.547 degrees west and Arisaig is 5.853 degrees west, so Scotland wins! Geof Sheppard 07:30, 5 June 2006 (UTC)

I don't know if this page helps with your discussion at all (Extreme points of the United Kingdom)? It distinguishes between points in the Uk, Uk mainland, England, Scotland etc (though obviously just points and settlements, not railway stations) Mammal4 10:50, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Penzance is not on the St Ives Bay Line

I propose that, as Wikipedia is not a timetable, the Route Infobox for Penzance should not show trains to St Ives as separate from the other services to St Erth. After all, there are just two through trains in each direction. Note that the St Ives Bay Line article only covers Penzance as a note in the text. Geof Sheppard 13:50, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

The services section is about what services serve Penzance, the Night Riveiera being one of them. It is part of FGW and branded as such. Simply south (talk) 14:13, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

The Night Riviera is already mentioned in the text of the "Services" section. The table is a summary and navigation aid; as you say, "it is part of FGW and branded as such", so why does it need repeating? Geof Sheppard (talk) 08:24, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
