[edit] Lady's age
Penny smith was not born in 1965. I know this for a fact. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.152.86.61 (talk) 01:18, 27 March 2006 (UTC).
- I remember reading something about her a couple of years back that implied she was born in 1961 or thereabouts. So 1965 does indeed look dubious. Crisso 14:48, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
Penny Smith was born in 1958, not in the 60s. The confusion appears to have arisen because for 8 years she kept making the joke that she was 37 again whenever John Stapleton wished her a happy birthday on air, asking her age while he was at it (knowing with a smirk on his face what the reply would be). Some people are obviously too thick to have got this joke despite the 'banter' about the matter clearly being tongue-in-cheek. Daytime telly viewers, eh?. They just accept anything they hear without even questioning it or pausing to consider if there's a joke or some irony lurking just below the surface. 81.178.110.94 16:56, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I can't believe she is 48 years old... SOURCE?! 88.109.245.86 16:44, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- A long interview in the Daily Mail a few years ago which included old photos before she was famous and a brief mention of her marriage. Also, she mentioned her birth year a couple of times while she was a presenter on a London radio station doing a 'desert island discs' clone. Also on that station at the time was Sandi Toksvig who said she was friends with Penny and that she was a year older than herself. Now ehere did you get 1964 from, and what gave you the right to change things without quoting a source? 62.189.34.9 12:53, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
Penny Smith cannot have been born in 1965 since in this 2002 interview she jokes about having claimed to be 37 for years and intends to claim to be 37 for years to come. So to have been claiming to be 37 for years by 2002 she must have been born years before 1965. Can we not use a little common sense here? 85.210.222.51 16:00, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
- No source no can do surely? If she was born in 1958 we need to source that otherwise the date needs to come out. Spartaz 22:36, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
I changed her year of birth as far back as May 2006. Then some know-it-all changed again and I had to rectify it in June 2006. Once and for all, Penny Smith was not born in 1965. If she had been, she would have been 12 years of age when she joined the Peterborough Evening Telegraph in 1977. She spent four years there before going off to South America for two-and-a-half years. It would also mean she would have been about 15 or 16 when she married Tony Birtley. But she says herself she married in the 20s. So to whoever keeps changing her year oif birth to 1965, please desist. Stop interfering in something you know nothing about even if you think you do. Not only did I work with her in the 1980s but I have taken the trouble to check her birth with the BMD records. Brenmar —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Brenmar. - independant source for this? Not original research please. Spartaz Humbug! 08:13, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well this Daily Mirror source confirms she's at least 48 in 2006. Rgds, --Trident13 17:02, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
