It would be more accurate to say that Route 88 once followed the Perry Highway. Perry Highway is pretty much identical to US 19 from Pittsburgh to Erie. PA 88 north of Pittsburgh was rechristened PA 65 and goes from New Castle to Pittsburgh (this is NOT the Perry Highway).
